Yesterday, June 2, Hollywood celebrated the premiere of 'Splice' at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles. According to stage and screen star Sir Ian McKellen's website, The Hobbit, the prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy, will begin shooting in New Zealand in June. The book, The Hobbit, by JRR Tolkien, has been adapted for the screen in two films, which will both be shot over the course of a year. Casting has begun in Los Angeles, New York City and London. Writes McKellen on his hompage: 'The script too proceeds. The first draft is crammed with old and new friends, again on a quest in Middle Earth.
