Culture Project to Present REBEL VOICES: STORIES, SPEECHES AND SONGS OF RESISTANCE

Culture Project, New York's home for socially conscious theater, announces 'Prologue to Progress,' a two week series of music, performance, and discussion led by over a dozen international artists and thinkers from Sunday, October 1 through Sunday, October 15. One of the events will be Rob Urbinati's REBEL VOICES: Stories, Speeches, and Songs of Resistance.

Prologue to Progress kicks off on Sunday October 1 with I AM ANTIGONE, a contemporary retelling of Sophocles' Antigone, written by poet Saudamini Siegrist and directed by award-winning writer and director Myriam Cyr.

Bryant Park presents Accordions AROUND THE WORLD

Accordions Around the World is a four-week series that brings over 100 accordionists, as well as bandoneon, bayan, concertina, and harmonium-players of different musical genres, to perform at Bryant Park. Accordion Picnics, each Wednesday between June 28 and July 19, spotlights 24 musicians at each performance and offers audiences the chance to experience the range of this often-overlooked instrument.

Long Beach Opera presents SoCal Premiere of Opera FRIDA

On June 17, 18, 23, 24, & 25, Long Beach Opera (LBO) will present five outdoor performances of the highly anticipated Southern California premiere of Frida. The opera celebrates the renowned Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, her vivacious spirit, sexuality, fragility, and her tumultuous life with muralist Diego Rivera. Robert Xavier Rodriguez' brilliant score captures Frida with music as rich and haunting as her art.

Musica Viva NY Announces 40th Anniversary Season

Musica Viva NY-a chamber choir under the artistic direction of Dr. Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez-celebrates its 40th anniversary throughout the 2017-18 season, continuing its commitment to performing beloved as well as rarely heard works from various periods of musical history and from diverse cultures worldwide together with the Aeolus Quartet, quartet in residence. Highlights of the season include Orff's Carmina Burana, a concert featuring pianist and composer Seymour Bernstein, an appearance by Musica Viva NY's founder Walter Klauss, a performance commemorating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. featuring Alice Parker; and the world premiere of a work by Elena Ruehr, commissioned by Musica Viva NY. All performances take place at All Souls Church (80th Street and Lexington Avenue).
