The 29th National Cowboy Poetry Gathering -the nation's greatest celebration of the American West, its people, culture and traditions-will take place January 28 to February 2, 2013, in Elko, Nevada. Produced by the Western Folklife Center, the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering features performances of poetry and music from the cowboy and ranching occupation, but also presents exhibitions, films, workshops, dances and discussions-all centered on land-based culture in the American West, its traditional arts and the challenges it faces in the 21st century.

ART/WNY Presents JESUS HATES ME, Beginning Today

The New Years finds a charmingly eccentric Americana dark comedy hitting the American Repertory Theater of WNY's 2013 stage. Wayne Lemon's JESUS HATES ME takes place in a religiously themed putt-putt golf course (Called The Blood of the Lamb) and finds five Texans on an existential quest to find salvation or take the path to eternal damnation...being stuck where they live.

Taylor Mac to Star in The Foundry's GOOD PERSON OF SZECHWAN at La MaMa, 2/1-24

Can we practice goodness and create a world to sustain it? This question, posed by Shen Tei, the good-hearted, penniless and cross-dressing prostitute of Bertolt Brecht's Good Person of Szechwan, is central to the work of The Foundry Theatre. The play's concerns, and the earmarks of the Foundry's new production, make it an ideal offering from the company, which is celebrated for creating memorable theatrical events while pursuing civic inquiry and social justice. The show, starring the singular Taylor Mac as Shen Tei, is directed by Lear deBessonet and features original live music by 'indie rock vaudevillians' (SPIN) César Alvarez and The Lisps.

BWW Reviews: 5Pound Theatre's KISS THEM ALL SOUNDLY is New and Gritty

5Pound Theatre's Jason Cavanagh directs his original work Kiss Them All Soundly, an Into The Woods esq look at the darker, grittier side of three re-imagined nursery rhymes. Cavanagh delves into the realm of fantasy versus reality, digging into the sub-conscious of four famous childhood characters, Simple Simon, Georgie Porgie, Mary Had A Little Lamb and Alice (In Wonderland). It is an insighful look at the darker side of these characters and their stories, their motivations and their existence.
