Monday nights have been long enjoyed by theatregoers and all of us here at BroadwayWorld.com as the night where there's more cabarets, benefit concerts and other special events than we know how to handle. The beginning of the week has gotten even more complicated now, because in addition to all of those, we're now finding ourselves rushing home to be in front of the TV at 10pm to watch the wonderful NURSE JACKIE on Showtime, starring Edie Falco. The show has featured a parade (which we hope never ends) of other Broadway talent and guest stars as well. Season 3, which began last week looks to be the show's sharpest, most fun and strongest season yet.
Edie Falco, whose credits include a multitude of both stage and film projects, is currently starring in the Showtime series 'Nurse Jackie', which is in its third season. 'Nurse Jackie' also features other theater stars, including Anna Deavere Smith, Eve Best, and Dominic Fumusa. It was an emotional evening last night as THE MERCHANT OF VENICE celebrated its official opening night on Broadway. On Friday, the show announced that it would push back it's official press opening to accommodate its star, Lily Rabe whose mother, actress Jill Clayburgh sadly passed away at 66 on November 5. U2 frontman and SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK composer Bono, who underwent emergency back surgery for an injury sustained during training for U2's current '360 Degrees' Tour on Friday, May 21, has been released from Munich's Ludwig Maximilians-University Hospital, E!Online reports. Because Bono 'must now enter a period of rehabilitation,' according to Dr. Jeorg Tonn, who performed the operation, U2 will be forced to reschedule their tour of the United States and United Kingdom, E!Online reported today.

On the heels of record ratings for their second season debuts, two of SHOWTIME'S critically and audience acclaimed original comedy series NURSE JACKIE and the Emmy(R) winning UNITED STATES OF TARA, have both been renewed for a third season. Both half-hour comedy series have received 12 episode orders and will go into production later in the year. The announcement was made today by Robert Greenblatt, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc.
