2010 Tony Award Special Honors: Preston Whiteway of the Eugene O'Neill Theater

Today we are talking to Tony Award Special Honors Regional Theater Winner Preston Whiteway of the Eugene O'Neill Theater. We discuss the various plays and musicals begun there - NINE, AVENUE Q, IN THE HEIGHTS, the forthcoming TALES OF THE CITY by the Scissor Sisters, as well as the first plays by three-time Pultizer-prize winner August Wilson and much, much more! Michael Douglas will be presenting the award on Tony night as an accreditation to the legacy and accomplishment of the theater with particular, singular focus aimed at Mr. Whiteway himself. We also discuss the plays musicals on the horizon such as a new show by PASSING STRANGE's Stew and NEXT TO NORMAL's Tom Kitt.

Eugene O'Neill Theater Center Announces Opening Of Monte Cristo Cottage 5/27

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center announced today that Monte Cristo Cottage, boyhood summer home of Eugene O?Neill , setting for two of his most revered plays, Long Day?s Journey Into Night and Ah, Wilderness!, will be open for public tours Thursday, May 27 through Labor Day weekend; Thursday through Saturday, noon to 4 pm; Sundays 1-3 pm. The Cottage will be closed on Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Eugene O'Neill Theater Center Premieres BUDDY'S TAVERN, CLEAR et al., 6/26-7/16

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center announces that three musicals, BUDDY'S TAVERN, CLEAR, and EDEN, will be developed at its 2010 National Music Theater Conference under the leadership of artistic director Paulette Haupt. The Conference runs from June 26 through July 16 on the O'Neill's campus in Waterford, Connecticut.

Tom Viertel, Chairman of the Board of the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, has announced that Stephen Sondheim will present Harold Prince with the organization's Monte Cristo Award at a gala benefit on Monday, April 5, 2010 at Bridgewaters. The Award, given annually in recognition of a distinguished career exemplifying Eugene O'Neill's pioneering spirit and standard of excellence, has previously been presented to Kevin Spacey, Neil Simon, Jason Robards, Jr., Edward Albee, August Wilson, Zoe Caldwell, Brian Dennehy, Karl Malden, Arthur and Barbara Gelb, and Wendy Wasserstein.

'The Coterie Un/Plugged, Volume One: Lauren Worsham and Friends' Premieres at the Canal Room, 2/22

THE COTERIE, an up-and-coming downtown opera-theater company, will present a benefit concert The Coterie Un/Plugged, Volume One: Lauren Worsham and Friends at the Canal Room on February 22nd at 7:30PM. The evening will feature Lauren Worsham (Candide, Spelling Bee) and special guests including Tony nominee Barbara Walsh (Falsettos, Company), Theresa McCarthy (Floyd Collins, Titanic) and Andrew Nolan (Wooster Group's La Didone).

Brian Dennehy, a leading figure in American theater, renowned for his roles in the plays of Eugene O'Neill, will highlight the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's 10th Annual Eugene O'Neill Celebration, presented this year in collaboration with the Eugene O'Neill Society and Connecticut College and with the support of the Frank Loomis Palmer Fund. Mr. Dennehy is an active member of the Center's Board of Trustees.
