25 Top Journalists Chosen for Fellowships to USC Annenberg's NEA Arts Institute

Twenty-five arts journalists have been chosen from 16 states to participate as fellows in the sixth National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Arts Journalism Institute in Theater and Musical Theater at USC Annenberg. Through the generous support of the NEA, the Institute will be conducted by USC Annenberg's School of Journalism in Los Angeles from May 17-27, 2010.

THE LANGUAGE ARCHIVE Premieres at South Coast Rep, 3/25-4/25

The Language Archive, written by Julia Cho will be running through April 25 at the South Coast Repertory Theatre. Recipient of the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, the show features Leo Marks, Betsy Brandt, Laura Heisler, Tony Amendola and Linda Gehringer.

East West Players Instructor Leslie Ishii Wins 'Teachers Making A Difference' Award

East West Players (EWP), the nation's premier Asian American Theatre, is proud to announce that Leslie Ishii is one of the winners of the Cherry Blossom Festival 2010 Teachers Making A Difference Award. Ishii is a long-time instructor for EWP, currently teaching Fundamentals of Acting, Voice and Speech, and Studio Lab Project.

World Premiere of ROAD TO SAIGON Set for East West Players, 5/19-6/13

East West Players (EWP), the nation's premier Asian American theatre, continues its 44th season, themed Art Is..., with the world premiere of ROAD TO SAIGON, developed and directed by Jon Lawrence Rivera, with musical direction and arrangements by Nathan Wang, and featuring Joan Almedilla, Jennifer Paz, and Jenni Selma in the cast. This production of ROAD TO SAIGON is made possible with the generous support of the S. Mark Taper Foundation Endowment for East West Players.

South Coast Rep Presents Cho's THE LANGUAGE ARCHIVE, 3/26-4/25

Julia Cho's THE LANGUAGE ARCHIVE will receive its premiere at the South Coast Repertory Theatre as a part of their 2010 season. The show received a reading in 2009 as a part of SCR's Pacific Playwrights Festivals. The show will be directed by Mark Brokaw and will play March 26th to April 25th at the Segerstrom Stage.

Roundabout Announces New Plays by Cho and Rosentock

Roundabout Theatre Company announced that Julia Cho and Kimberly Rosenstock will be coming to the not-for-profit institution with the announcement of their new plays as part of the fall 2010 season at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre (111 West 46th Street).

Salonga and Tomita to Emcee East West Players Awards April 19

East West Players (EWP), the nation's premier Asian American theatre, happily announces Lea Salonga and Tamlyn Tomita as the Emcees of East West Players 44th Anniversary Visionary Award Dinner & Silent Auction. Also announced for the gala event are performances by Joan Almedilla, Jennifer Paz, and Jenni Selma of EWP's upcoming musical production of ROAD TO SAIGON and vocalist Ethan Le Phong. This year's honorees include previously announced Wenda Fong, Vice President of Alternative Programming for FOX and Mike Shinoda, visual artist and musician for two-time Grammy Award-winning rock band Linkin Park. The gala event will take place at the Hilton Universal City on Monday, April 19, 2010. Proceeds from the event will benefit East West Players' educational and artistic programs.

O.C.'s Chance Theater Presents WELCOME HOME JENNY SUTTER, 4/16-5/16

The Chance Theater is pleased to present the Southern California premiere of acclaimed playwright Julie Marie Myatt's intense look at returning home from war, WELCOME HOME, JENNY SUTTER, April 16- May 16, 2010. Directed by Chance Theater Artistic Director Oanh Nguyen, WELCOME HOME, JENNY SUTTER is a present-day story of personal recovery and acceptance. Upon her return to Southern California from a difficult tour of duty in Iraq, wounded Marine Sergeant Jenny Sutter finds herself lost in the California desert, without the body and mind she once knew. The eccentric inhabitants of a makeshift community give her the homecoming she needs before returning to her previous life. An edgy and poignant drama, WELCOME HOME, JENNY SUTTER brings fascinating insight to a timely theme.

EBE Ensemble Presents ELEPHANTS ON PARADE 2010

EBE Ensemble (Eric Alba, Artistic Director; Montgomery Sutton, Executive Director) will present the third-annual installment of their award winning festival of new one-act plays, Elephants on Parade 2010. Performances will begin on Tuesday, March 9, opening Wednesday, March 10 through March 20 at New York's Teatro IATI (64 E. 4th street, between 2nd Avenue and Bowery).

East West Players Brings Arts Education to Underfunded Schools

East West Players (EWP), the nation's premier Asian American Theatre, presents Partners in Education and Arts Collaboration (PEAC)-its 12-week residency program which brings the performing arts to schools that lack arts education funding. This afterschool program is conducted for two hours on a weekly basis by professional teaching artists who lead 20 seventh and eighth graders through a series of theatrical exercises meant to give students a basic foundation of theatrical skills. In giving students the opportunity to create original work and perform in front of their peers, PEAC strives to create teamwork, self-confidence, self-esteem and an appreciation for the performing arts. PEAC instructors are Alison De La Cruz and Rani De Leon. The current program began on March 10th at James Madison Middle School, thanks to the help of coordinating teacher Mindy Roh.

SCR Announces 13th Annual Pacific Playwrights Festival Lineup, 4/23-4/25

South Coast Repertory's 13th annual Pacific Playwrights Festival (PPF) will shine the spotlight on seven new plays written by America's finest writers, including five who will be familiar to SCR audiences and two who are making their SCR debuts. This year's festival, which takes place April 23-25, will feature fully-produced world premieres by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Julia Cho and staged readings of brand-new works by Amy Freed, Itamar Moses, Bathsheba Doran, Sofia Alvarez and David West Read.
