BWW Reviews: '9 to 5: THE MUSICAL' national tour opens at TPAC

Make no mistake about it: everybody in Tennessee loves Dolly Parton! She's a Volunteer State treasure, a role model for people all over the world and an example of what hard work and a whole lotta heart can achieve. Hell, if Dolly (in Tennessee, no other modifier is needed to identify our favorite daughter) ran for office, she'd be a shoo-in! And it's clear - judging from audience reactions during the national touring company's Nashville kick-off at Tennessee Performing Arts Center - that Tennesseans love 'em some 9 to 5: The Musical, the retooled, refashioned and re-imagined theatrical piece based on the 1980 film in which Dolly made her own screen debut.

BWW Interviews: Jeff Calhoun, Director/Co-Choreographer of 9 to 5: The Musical at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, September 28 – October 3, 2010.

"Tumble out of bed and stumble to the kitchen, pour myself a cup of ambition…" You would be hard pressed to find anyone out there who hasn't heard these iconic lyrics that start the classic Dolly Parton hit song, 9 to 5. The song (and the film) may be approaching their 30th anniversary, but the story has taken on brand new life in the form of a new musical (with music by Dolly Parton and book by Pat Resnick) and will be arriving at the Fabulous Fox Theatre September 28 - October 3, the second stop on the national tour. Directing and co-choreographing this reimagining of the recent Broadway production of 9 to 5: The Musical is Jeff Calhoun. Jeff took time out from his busy schedule to talk to us about 9 to 5, his vision for the show, and of course, working with the legendary Dolly Parton.

RIALTO CHATTER: CARRIE One Step Closer to Bway?

As BroadwayWorld has previously reported, producers Jeffrey Seller and Kevin McCollum, resurrected the infamous flop musical CARRIE for an Equity reading that had a notoriously short 3 night, 5 performance run on Broadway in 1988. The reading took place on November 20, 2009. The hope is to bring 'Carrie' and her supernatural powers back to the Broadway stage.

BroadwayWorld.com got a sneak peek at the new tour cast's first rehearsal! Tune in to hear from director/choreographer Jeff Calhoun, producer Mike Isaacson and to get a tiny listen to the cast singing the title song for the VERY first time!
