This weekend found the New York Philharmonic in Ann Arbor, Michigan, for the inaugural performance residency of its five-year partnership with the University Musical Society of the University of Michigan, in conjunction with the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. Alan Gilbert led the Orchestra in works by Beethoven, Magnus Lindberg, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Richard Strauss; David Newman led the score to On the Waterfrontas the complete film was screened; Philharmonic musicians led master classes; and Alan Gilbert conducted a thousand — Philharmonic brass plus the Michigan Marching Band, Michigan Alumni Band, and UMS Choral Union — at the Michigan Homecoming football game halftime show. Actor Christopher Lloyd, who portrayed Emmett "Doc" Brown, will join fellow cast member James Tolkan (Mr. Strickland), composer Alan Silvestri, writer/producer Bob Gale, and the entire New Jersey Symphony Orchestra for two special 30th anniversary HD screenings of the original BACK TO THE FUTURE at the renowned Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Led by conductor David Newman, the orchestra will perform Silvestri's entire original score live in sync with the film, including 20 minutes of brand new music that Silvestri added for this special live concert production.

The Bach Choir of Bethlehem has announced its 2015/16 season, Bach At The Heart, which will culminate in the 109th Bethlehem Bach Festival in May 2016. In a milestone programming endeavor, The Bach Choir of Bethlehem will mount performances of four major choral works this season: in addition to the traditional performance of the B Minor Mass at the Bach Festival 2016, the Christmas Oratorio (Cantatas 1-3) will be performed in the Bach Choir's traditional Christmas concerts on December 12th & 13th,2015; the St. John Passion in its spring concert on March 20th,, and the Easter Oratorio at the Bach Festival on Friday evenings. The Bach Choir, Bach Festival Orchestra, and distinguished soloists perform under the direction of artistic director and conductor Greg Funfgeld, now in his 33rd season.
