Oskar Eustis Hosts The Public's Who Lost America? 11/15

The Public Theater (Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director; Andrew D. Hamingson, Executive Director) announced the line-up today for the second Public Forum event, "Who Lost America? How Our Politics and Culture Have Changed in the 10 Years Since Bush v. Gore", on Monday, November 15 at 8 p.m.

East West Players (EWP), the nation's premier Asian American theatre, continues its 45th Anniversary season, themed Shake It Up, with the Pulitzer Prize-winning play CRIMES OF THE HEART by Beth Henley. This production will be directed by Leslie Ishii. The cast of the production includes Maya Erskine, Kimiko Gelman, Elizabeth Liang, Hiwa Bourne, Tim Chiou, and Jason Sino. In CRIMES OF THE HEART we meet three delightfully dysfunctional sisters: Babe has just shot her husband, Meg is fresh from the loony bin, and Lenny celebrates her birthday alone by sticking a candle in a cookie. This Southern classic with an Asian American cast will be an unforgettable night of laughter and tears in East West Players style.

Patinkin Leads COMPULSION at Berkeley Rep, 9/16-10/31

Even as its shows reach New York and London, Berkeley Repertory Theatre begins another season of fearless theatre here at home: Emmy- and Tony Award-winning actor Mandy Patinkin stars in the world-premiere production of Compulsion on Berkeley Rep's intimate Thrust Stage. Acclaimed director Oskar Eustis returns to the Bay Area with Rinne Groff's latest play, a kaleidoscopic collision of history and culture that combines stellar acting with marvelous marionettes. Compulsion, a world-premiere co-production from Berkeley Rep, The Public Theater, and Yale Repertory Theatre, begins previews on September 13, opens September 16, and closes October 31.

Actors Theatre Opens Season With In the Next Room (Or The Vibrator Play) 10/29-11/4

Staying true to its roots of bringing provocative, thoughtful and, quite often, conversation-generating plays to Herberger Theatre's Stage West, Actors Theatre opens its 25th anniversary season with Sarah Ruhl's In The Next Room (Or The Vibrator Play), a comedy about marriage, intimacy and electricity, from Oct. 29 through Nov. 14.

Ohio State Theatre Presents AIDA, 11/18-21

Ohio State Theatre returns to the Southern to present the Tony Award-winning, pop-rock musical Aida, with music by Elton John, lyrics by Tim Rice, and direction by Jimmy Bohr. Based on the book by Linda Woolverton, Robert Falls, and David Henry Hwang, this contemporary take on a classic love story tells the tale of a forbidden love between an enslaved Nubian princess and an Egyptian soldier forced to face death or part forever. Together, they set a shining example of true devotion that ultimately transcends the vast cultural differences between their warring nations, heralding a time of unprecedented peace and prosperity.

Lark Play Development Center Begins Construction of New Home

The Lark Play Development Center, a leading research and development laboratory for playwrights and the American theater, broke ground this month on expanded office and studio performance space in the heart of Manhattan's theater district.

The 6 p.m. Sunday, October 17 performance of threesixtyº entertainment's spectacular stage production of PETER PAN will be a special fundraising performance to benefit the Festival of Children Foundation, Orange County Museum of Art, South Coast Repertory and Orange County Performing Arts Center. J M Barrie's classic story is being performed at the Center through November 21 in a state-of-the-art theater pavilion.
