THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL is a rather bland tale that challenges a director to perk up the drama, which threatens to vanish once we must pull away from the close-ups on its elderly protagonist, Carrie Watts, that TV and movies so readily provide. In the current CPCC Theatre production at Pease Auditorium, Charles LaBorde has a more satisfying way with the script than Michael Wilson did in the recent Broadway revival.

Tennessee Women's Theater Project launches its 2015-16 season with the fast-paced, irreverent comedy The Taming by Lauren Gunderson. Just last night, the American Theatre Wing hosted its annual Gala at The Plaza Hotel (Fifth Avenue at Central Park South), honoring legendary actor James Earl Jones. Mr. Jones is a two-time Tony Award winner, two-time Obie Award winner and alumnus of the American Theatre Wing Professional School. CeCe Black, Anki Leeds, and Marva Smalls will serve as Gala Chairs.

The 'I Have A Dream' Foundation (IHDF) today announced that former New York City Mayor David Dinkins will present legendary actress Cicely Tyson with their Eugene M. Lang Lifetime Achievement Award at the foundation's annual Spirit of the Dream Gala. The foundation will also present a Spirit of a Dream Award to an exemplary alumnus of the program as well as a Corporate Award recognizing a key corporation that has supported the charitable organization. The 2015 Spirit of the Dream Gala will take place on June 9 at Gotham Hall in New York City.

Over 400 guests including current and past New York City high school students, and the performing arts professional mentors who have participated in TDF's Open Doors, the theatre arts mentoring program that TDF founded in 1998 with playwright Wendy Wasserstein, will attend this year's graduation at 5:30pm on Monday, June 1 at The Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College (524 West 59th Street, NYC). TDF's Open Doors was the first arts education program to receive a special Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theatre when it received the special honor in 2012. This year, Open Doors had 30 mentors working with 24 groups of students from New York City high schools.
