Sundance Institute and India's Mahindra Group today announced the four winners of the 2013 Sundance Institute | Mahindra Global Filmmaking Awards, in recognition and support of emerging independent filmmakers from around the world. The winning directors and projects are: Sarthak Dasgupta, THE MUSIC TEACHER from India; Jonas Carpignano, A CHJANA from Italy-US; Aly Muritiba, THE MAN WHO KILLED MY BELOVED DEAD from Brazil; and Vendela Vida & Eva Weber, LET THE NORTHERN LIGHTS ERASE YOUR NAME from UK-Germany-US.
The Line-Up has been announced for the 2013 Sundance Film Festival which will be held in Utah this January. The event marks the Festival's 29th year. This year, 113 feature-length films representing 32 countries will be presented.

Sundance Institute today announced the appointment of Paul Federbush to International Director, Feature Film Program (FFP). Federbush will oversee the international activities of the Institute's Feature Film Program. Federbush will begin September 24, reporting to Michelle Satter, Founding Director, Feature Film Program.

Following up on last month's announcement of the Film Forward: Advancing Cultural Dialogue initiative, Sundance Institute announced today the ten films selected to participate in the inaugural year of this cultural exchange program. The first Film Forward slate includes five American and five international films which will be presented in collaboration with public and private partners. Stage and screen star Susan Sarandon will be the 2009 recipient of the Stockholm Film Festival's Lifetime Achievement Award. The actress will be presented the prize during the festival in Sweden, which runs November 18-29.

Variety is reporting that Michael Haneke's 'The White Ribbon,' the black-and-white drama set in a rural German village on the eve of WWI, received the Palme d'Or from the jury of the 62nd Cannes Film Festival on Sunday. The trade paper also reports that Sony Pictures Classics nabbed the North American rights to the film before the festival.
