The Irish Repertory Theatre continues its 22nd Season with 'Ernest in Love,' a musical adaptation of Oscar Wilde's 'The Importance of Being Ernest'

The New York Times has confirmed that The Soho Playhouse will close MADE IN HEAVEN on Monday, December 7 to make way for the transfer of EMPEROR JONES by Eugene O'Neil. EMPEROR JONES will begin performances on December 15th.

In recognition of the life and work of Father Aengus Finucane, The Irish Repertory Theater (IRT) will donate all proceeds from the Dec. 1 performance of Eugene O'Neill's 'The Emperor Jones'-as well as all staff and cast salaries-to Concern Worldwide US, the international humanitarian agency co-founded by the priest in the late 60s.

John Douglas Thompson -- OBIE and Lucille Lortel Award-winning actor for last season's acclaimed revival of OTHELLO -- returns to Off-Broadway in the Irish Repertory Theatre's 2009-2010 season opener, THE EMPEROR JONES by Eugene O'Neill at The Irish Repertory Theatre (132 West 22nd Street) in Manhattan.

Following its sold-out run, The Irish Repertory Theatre Co. Inc. and Darren Lee Cole Theatricals are set to present The Irish Repertory Theatre's production of Eugene O'Neill's THE EMPEROR JONES - starring John Douglas Thompson as the charismatic Brutus Jones -- Off-Broadway for a strictly limited 7-week engagement, with previews set to begin December 15 prior to an official press opening December 22, at Soho Playhouse (15 Vandam Street). Ciaran O'Reilly directs.

1959 was a heck of a good year for Broadway overtures.  The majestic trumpet fanfare and lowdown bump and grind of Gypsy's is generally regarded as the best in musical theatre, but there was also the rousingly rhythmic curtain-raiser to Fiorello! and, my personal favorite, Philip J. Lang's beautiful interpretation of Bob Merrill's music for Take Me Along, which touches on so many moods of the show while continually building the toe-tapping climax of The catchy title tune.
