Lincoln Center's acclaimed series American Songbook finishes up its twelfth season celebrating the diversity of American popular song with a final week of different and dazzling concerts. For 16 nights of pop, folk, cabaret, country, rock, and show tunes, the series explored the best of the golden age of musical standards through to today's most dynamic contemporary songwriting.

If you look up the term 'soul survivor' online, you might just stumble across a biography and picture of Bettye Lavette waiting for you to peruse since her career trajectory could lead to her being aptly labeled as such. Lavette started recording in the early 1960's at age sixteen, but she flew beneath the pop culture radar for a number of years before a revival at the turn of the century sparked a resurgence of interest in her work.

This exhibition, organized by the Sheldon Art Galleries , St. Louis , presents an overview of photographs and selected sculpture by William Christenberry from the 1960s onwards which illustrate the artist's interest in and reaction to the sculptural forms of vernacular structures and cultural artifacts of Hale County, Alabama, where the artist spent his childhood and early adult years.

As usual, the season includes five series - Jazz at The Sheldon, Fantastic Folk, Sheldon Classics, Saturday Matinees, and Coffee Concerts, as well as Special Concerts and educational programming - all available starting May 13 at 10 a.m.
