The Village Players of Birmingham opens its 4th production of its 95th season with James Lapine's tribute to a life in the theatre; Act One. The play is based on playwright Moss Hart's autobiography of the same title.
Portland's Good Theater is closing, what has been a highly adventurous and challenging fourteenth season, with a triumphant production of Act One, James Lapine's play based on the autobiography of Moss Hart. This nostalgic, subtly comic, and warmly touching work tells the story of a young Hart, learning to navigate the complex currents of writing a Broadway show in the 1930s. Told by two narrators, Lapine's play brings to life not only the Hart-George S. Kaufmann partnership, but a host of other colorful historical characters who helped to shape this golden age of the stage.
Outer Critics Circle, the organization of writers covering New York theatre for out-of-town newspapers, national publications and other media beyond Broadway, welcomes Broadway stars Billy Porter, Victoria Clark, Terrence Mann, Andrea Martin and Shuler Hensley as gala award presenters for the 64th Annual Outer Critics Circle Awards ceremony tonight, May 22nd (4PM) at the legendary Sardi's Restaurant. In addition to being acclaimed stage performers, the stars are also former recipients of the esteemed Outer Critics Circle Award. The national organization will post award winners in 24 Broadway/Off-Broadway categories.
The winners of the following categories will be announced on Monday, May 12th and the annual awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 22nd (4PM) at Sardi's Restaurant.
Lincoln Center Theater presents Act One, a play written and directed by James Lapine from the autobiography by Moss Hart. The production is scheduled to begin previews tomorrow night, March 20 and will open on Thursday, April 17 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater (150 West 65 Street). Two-time Tony Award winner Andrea Martin is a busy actress these days. The funnylady not only has two Broadway plays coming up, but will now take on the role of author in an upcoming memoir to be titled 'Andrea Martin's Lady Parts'.
