Dallas Opera's Educational Initiatives Announced

The Dallas Opera is extremely pleased to announce a significant expansion of our educational programs, beginning in the summer of 2011. These programs are designed to underscore TDO's renewed commitment to educational excellence in the arts, both inside and outside the traditional opera house.

Nominees Announced for Maria Callas Award, Dinner Held May 19

The Dallas Opera is proud to announce the eighteen artists from around the world who are vying for the prestigious "Maria Callas Debut Artist of the Year" Award to be announced at the annual Dallas Opera Board and Trustee Appreciation Dinner on Thursday, May 19th at 6:30 PM in the Crescent Ballroom of the Rosewood Crescent Hotel, 400 Crescent Court in Uptown Dallas.

The Dallas Opera is pleased to announce the five darkly dazzling operas that comprise the company's 2011-12 season in the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center. With opening night on Friday, October 21, 2011, the 55th international season - "Tragic Obsessions" - will showcase compelling works by Donizetti, Janacek, Wagner, Verdi and Mozart, and will include an outstanding Dallas opera-in-concert, important debuts and some of the company's most renowned productions. Each opera will feature the superbly talented Dallas Opera Orchestra and Dallas Opera Chorus and will be performed in its original language, with English translations projected above the stage at every performance. Exclusive subscriber extras include "A Cabaret Evening with Patricia Racette" and a fun-filled family concert starring soprano Ava Pine and the Dallas Opera Orchestra.

Houston Grand Opera Announces its 2011-12 Season

Houston Grand Opera General Director and CEO Anthony Freud announced the company's 2011-2012 season today. Opening on October 21, 2011, the season offers thirty-two performances of six operas. Tenor Paul Appleby Performs At Alice Tully Hall 11/30

Tenor Paul Appleby is joined by pianist Brian Zeger for a solo recital as the winner of Juilliard's 14th annual Alice Tully Vocal Arts Recital Award on November 30 at 8 PM in Alice Tully Hall (Broadway at 65th Street). The program features Schubert's song cycle, 'Die schöne Müllerin', on poems by Wilhelm Müller.

Houston Grand Opera (HGO) continues its 2010-11 season with Peter Grimes, British composer Benjamin Britten's masterful opera about the human struggle of the individual versus the masses against the backdrop of the raging sea. Following HGO's acclaimed productions of Billy Budd (2008), A Midsummer Night's Dream (2009) and The Turn of the Screw (2010), Peter Grimes is the fourth opera in HGO's highly successful and innovative Benjamin Britten series. 'Peter Grimes is an opera that delivers a punch like no other,' explained HGO General Director Anthony Freud. 'It's an opera that has a visceral power, an emotional impact and an immediacy that is truly overwhelming.' HGO will present a series of Britten operas through the 2012-13 season, which marks the centennial of the composer's birth.

Eastman BroadBand Celebrates the Americas at Columbia Univ., 11/1

On Monday, November 1, 2010 at 8:00 PM, Eastman School of Music - one of the nation's premier music institutions, named 'Hottest School for Music' by Newsweek - presents its esteemed contemporary chamber ensemble Eastman BroadBand in concert at Columbia University's Miller Theatre. Principal conductor Juan Trigos will lead the orchestra and special guests soprano Tony Arnold, pianist Cristina Valdes, guitarist Dieter Hennings, harpsichordist Josephine Gaffke, and percussionist Michael Burritt.
