Pear Theatre Opens 2016-17 Season with THE GUYS and THE VEILS

Pear Theatre opens its 2016-17 season with an insightful pair of plays presented in repertory. THE GUYS, by Anne Nelson, chronicles the real-life relationship between a journalist covering the aftermath of 9/11 in New York, and a New York fire chief struggling to write eulogies for dozens of lost compatriots. Alternating with THE GUYS will be VEILS by Tom Coash, featuring two Muslim women during Arab Spring - one, an African-American born in the United States who seeks to be less of an outsider by taking her college studies to Egypt, the other an Egyptian-born woman who craves the freedom and adventure she imagines American women to have.

Pear Theatre Announces 2016/17 Season

Pear Theatre is proud to announce its 2016/2017 season, an intriguing blend of classic stage works and contemporary gems. In this, its 15thseason, the Pear is offering special discounts to dual subscribers; patrons who purchase two full subscriptions earn a complimentary ticket to be used at any time during the season (subject to availability). The Flea Premieres THE PLACE WE BUILT Tonight

The Flea Theater is excited to welcome playwright Sarah Gancher with the world premiere of THE PLACE WE BUILT. Artistic Associate Danya Taymor (My Daughter Keeps Our Hammer, I Hate Mexicans) directs members of The Bats, The Flea's resident acting company, with music direction and arrangements by The Bengsons. Previews start tonight, April 14th, with opening night slated for April 25th.

The Flea Premieres BUT I CD ONLY WHISPER; Begins Previews Feb. 18

The Flea Theater presents the New York premiere of Kristiana Colon's but i cd only whisper, directed by Resident Director David Monteagudo and featuring members of The Bats, The Flea's resident acting company. Previews start February 18, with opening night slated for Monday, February 29.

9/11-Themed Play THE GUYS Opens Tonight at Davenport Theatre

A new production of THE GUYS, a play by Anne Nelson, opens tonight, Jan. 20, and will honor the 150th Anniversary of the New York Fire Department, Father Mychal Judge, OFM, the first certified fatality in the September 11, 2001 attacks and the Lt. Joseph G. Leavey Foundation. The play will begin at 7:30pm at the Davenport Theatre, a converted firehouse on West 45th Street, and will run through Jan. 23.

Adam Rapp's WOLF IN THE RIVER & More Set for The Flea's Spring 2016 Season

Niegel Smith, Artistic Director and Carol Ostrow, Producing Director of The Flea Theater announced today the slate for the spring season, featuring two World Premieres and one US Premiere. Continuing a long-standing relationship with The Flea, Adam Rapp will be returning with Wolf in the River, which he also directs. The Flea is also excited to welcome two new playwrights, Kristiana Colon and Sarah Gancher. Gancher's The Place We Built will be directed by Flea Resident Director Danya Taymor while Colon's but I cd only whisper will be directed by Resident Director David Monteagudo.

The Flea Theater presents TAKE CARE, by Niegel Smith and Todd Shalom. This world premiere production marks Smith's directorial debut at his new artistic home and will feature The Bats, the resident acting company at the Flea. Previews start December 1 with Opening Night slated for Sunday, December 6.

Performance of 'The Guys' to Honor FDNY Lieutenant and Manhattan College Alumnus November 11

On Wednesday, Nov. 11 at noon, Manhattan College will host a performance of "The Guys," an off-Broadway play by Anne Nelson, directed by Hannah Ryan, associate director of the 2015 Tony Award winner The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. The play tells the story of Manhattan College alumnus Lt. Joseph G. Leavey of the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY).

Wendie Malick, Ray Abruzzo & More Set for Malibu Playhouse's THE GUYS, 9/11

 Malibu Playhouse presents "The Guys," by Anne Nelson, a reading tribute to firefighters, Friday, Sept. 11 at 8 p.m., starring Ray Abruzzo (SOPRANOS, TRANSPARENT) and Wendie Malick (HOT IN CLEVELAND), directed by Dan Lauria. A portion of the proceeds from this benefit for the Playhouse will be donated to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. 'The Guys," is the story of an editor and a Fire Chief coming together in the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy to write the eulogies for 8 of the men lost in the rescue.  

Tony Shaloub & Brooke Adams Will Head Off-Broadway for HAPPY DAYS at The Flea

The Flea Theater has announced the New York premiere of The Theatre @ Boston Court's production of HAPPY DAYS by Samuel Beckett, directed by Andrei Belgrader. After critically acclaimed runs in Boston and LA, The Flea welcomes theater veterans Brooke Adams and Tony Award nominee Tony Shalhoub to Tribeca.  Previews begin June 20 with opening night slated for June 29.

THE OLD MASTERS Begins at The Flea Next Month

The Flea will present the New York Premiere of THE OLD MASTERS. After a run at the First Look Repertory of New Work at Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago, Sam Marks' dark examination of marriage comes to The Flea. It will be directed by Resident Director Brandon Stock. Previews begin May 27 with opening night set for June 7.
