Thomas Adès to Make His NY Phil Conducting Debut with His TOTENTANZ, 3/12-14

Composer-conductor Thomas Ade?s will make his New York Philharmonic conducting debut leading the U.S. Premiere of his Totentanz, featuring mezzo-soprano Christianne Stotijn and baritone Mark Stone; Beethoven's Symphony No. 1; and Berlioz's Les Francs-juges Overture, Thursday, March 12, 2015, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, March 14 at 8:00 p.m.

Baryshnikov Arts Center to Continue Anniversary Season with Three Concerts

New York, NY – The Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) continues its 10th anniversary celebratory season with three concerts in April, reflecting BAC's expanded series of music programming for 2015. The weeklong celebration begins Monday, April 6 at 7:30pm, with one of BAC's signature events – a BAC Salon – in the Howard Gilman Performance Space, featuring the chamber music of Berio, Cage, and Mozart in an intimate salon setting. On Wednesday, April 8 at 7:30pm, composer and jazz pianist Stephen Prutsman will perform the entirety of his album Passengers for the first time ever, in another BAC Salon in the Howard Gilman Performance Space. The final performance of the week, on Saturday, April 11 at 8pm in the Jerome Robbins Theater, features the Latvian National Choir, hailing from BAC Artistic Director Mikhail Baryshnikov's birthplace of Riga and bringing to New York a program that includes music by Arvo Pärt, Grammy nominee Ugis Praulins, and the U.S. premieres of works by acclaimed Latvian composers Jekabs Janchevskis, Gundega Smite, and Raimonds Tiguls. The Latvian National Choir last appeared in New York as part of the 2010 White Light Festival at Lincoln Center, in performances The New York Times described as “ravishing.”

Raja Feather Kelly's COLOR ME, WARHOL Comes to Dixon Place, 4/10-25

Dixon Place's new dance commission and the feath3r theory's production of, COLOR ME, WARHOL, will have its world premiere on April 10th. Conceived, choreographed and directed by Raja Feather Kelly, this piece is the latest installment of an ongoing series jump-started by Mr. Kelly's interest in Andy Warhol, pop culture, and identity. COLOR ME, WARHOL will play six performances only -- April 10th, 11th, 17th, 18th, 24th, and 25th at 7:00PM, at Dixon Place (161A Chrystie Street).

New York Philharmonic Ensembles to Perform at Merkin Concert Hall, 3/15

The New York Philharmonic Ensembles, composed of musicians from the Orchestra, will give its fifth performance of the 2014-15 season on Sunday, March 15, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. at Merkin Concert Hall with a concert featuring Bottesini's Gran Duo Concertante for Violin, Double Bass and Piano; Tournier's Suite for Flute, Violin, Viola, Cello, and Harp, Op. 34; and Brahms's String Sextet No. 2 in G major, Op. 36. The musicians on the program will be Acting Principal Associate Concertmaster Michelle Kim and violinists Quan Ge, Fiona Simon, and Sharon Yamada; violists Judith Nelson, Re?mi Pelletier, and Robert Rinehart; cellists Eric Bartlett, Alexei Yupanqui Gonzales, and Patrick Jee; Principal Bass Timothy Cobb; Principal Harp Nancy Allen; and guest pianist Jean Schneider.

Yara Arts Group Adds HITTING BEDROCK to Season

With a decisive battle mounting in the Eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk, Yara Arts Group has chosen to replace its upcoming production of 'Dark Night Bright Stars,' a play based on the friendship of a Ukrainian painter with an African-American actor in 1858, with 'Hitting Bedrock,' a new work based on first-person testimonials of refugees from Donetsk and people stranded there. La MaMa E.T.C. will present the piece February 20 to March 8 in its First Floor Theater 74A East Fourth Street, Manhattan. Virlana Tkacz directs.

OpenICE Initiative Launches in NYC Today
