Uptown Players continues its 2009 season with The History Boys, held April 3 - May 3, 2009, at the KD Studio Theatre. A hugely successful, sold-out hit at the National Theatre of Great Britain and on Broadway, this brilliant comedy follows the senior year of eight history students in the north of England as they try to crack admission to Oxford and Cambridge.

The Ross Valley Players presents The Last Night of Ballyhoo By Alfred Uhry The inevitability of World War II and the film debut of Gone with the Wind intersect for the backdrop in Alfred Uhry's The Last Night of Ballyhoo, a heartwarming comedy set in 1939's Atlanta. On the cusp of Nazi domination in Europe, the Freitag family is more concerned about Ballyhoo, the social event of their elite Southern Jewish community.

Minghella Directed 'Madama Butterfly' Returns to the Stage Starting 10/24

The Met's acclaimed production of Puccini's Madama Butterfly, directed by the late Academy Award-winning film director Anthony Minghella, returns to the stage for twelve performances beginning Friday, October 24, 2008. Reprising their portrayals in the production this season are sopranos Patricia Racette and Cristina Gallardo-Domâs in the title role, tenors Roberto Aronica and Marcello Giordani as Pinkerton, and baritone Dwayne Croft as Sharpless. Patrick Summers conducts the opera for the first time at Met.

MacArthur Foundation Names 2008 Fellows; Tony Winner Tipton Among Recipients

he John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation today named 25 new MacArthur Fellows for 2008. This past week, the recipients learned in a single phone call from the Foundation that they will each receive $500,000 in 'no strings attached' support over the next five years. The new Fellows work across a broad spectrum of endeavors and include a neurobiologist, a saxophonist, a critical care physician, an urban farmer, an optical physicist, a sculptor, a geriatrician, a historian of medicine, and an inventor of musical instruments. All were selected for their creativity, originality, and potential to make important contributions in the future.
