Princess Omo Okieme (Theatre Actress and Social Activist (1986-).

Background


Princess Omo Okieme is an emerging actress, known for her warm and disarming persona. Second- Generation Nigerian American, Princess Okieme born in the South Bronx and raised in the Norwood section where she embraced the hispanic culture of her neighborhood and peers, becoming a Nigerian Latin Bronxinite.

After taking her first drama course in middle school, where Ms. Okieme was introduced to acting and script writing, Ms. Okieme immediately knew she wanted to pursue a career in the arts.

Education & Training

Upon receiving her Business Degree from Fordham University and Masters in Clinical Social Work from New York University, Princess revisited her desire to pursue a career in the arts. In doing so, Princess enrolled herself into acting and theatre at Brookdale College in Monmouth County where she once again began to act and write. Upon completion, Ms. Okieme had the opportunity to serve as an intern at The Actors Studio, landing her into two Off-Broadway shows in New York City’s theatre circuit.
Influence

After watching the Film Stella Dallas, Princess Okieme fell in love with Barbara Stanwyck and knew for sure she wanted to become an actress playing strong female roles like Ms. Stanwyck. Ms. Okieme stated “ I want my acting to make others feel what Stanwyck’s acting made me feel: a warm, therapeutic and healing experience”. Ms. Okieme claimed each time she watched a Stanwyck movie, a feeling of hope would come over her, propelling her to fight through adversity that at times, seemed impossible to overcome. Through my craft, like Stanwyck, “ I too want to provide others with hope and happiness for their future.

Leadership and Social Activism

Aside from acting, Princess is also driven by social and political activism. Collaborating with UN Ambassadors and Officials to organize the Eighth Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations. As well as, assisting Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney in the Violence against Women Act reauthorization, which help to pass the Campus Save Act. As an NYU Alum, Princess also serves as President for the NYU Alumni Club for the Greenwich Connecticut Chapter assisting in maintaining and promoting the NYU Brand and relations between Alumni.

Princess is an intellectually and socially inclined individual making her able to work with some of the most talented writers and directors in the business.
