Desert Ensemble Theatre Presents World Premiere In February

Desert Ensemble Theatre Company's (DETC)'s Eighth Season continues from February 8-10 and 15-17, 2019 with the world premiere of For a Reason by award-winning playwright-in-Residence Tony Padilla.

DETC performs at the Pearl McManus Theater in the Palm Springs Woman's Club, 314 S. Cahuilla Road. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased in advance through the company's website, www.detctheatre.org, or by calling (760) 565-2476.

Padilla's latest work is a comedy about the reasons that people come into our lives and, in the playwright's words "how casual encounters can lead to positive life changes." It features acclaimed vocalist Charles Herrera in a rare, non-singing role; popular radio host and multi-talented stage performer Bonnie Gilgallon; and, in their DETC debuts, Massimo Dubrovic ("Euros of Hollywood" on Bravo) and actress/jazz vocalist Leanna Rodgers. Shawn Abramowitz directs.

Padilla founded DETC in 2011 and served as Producing Artistic Director until his retirement in 2018. In 2014, he received the Desert Theatre League's Bill Groves Award for Outstanding Original Writing for Becoming Ava. In 2008 his play, Endangered Species was translated and produced by Campagnia dell'Attimo in Rovereto, Italy; it was also part of the April 2009 Schegge D'Autore Theatre Festival in Rome where it was awarded the festival's International Award.

The Desert Sun readers recognized DETC as "Best Repertory Company" in the 2018 "Best of the Valley" poll. Palm Springs Life readers also chose DETC as "Best Live Theater, Palm Springs" in the magazine's 2018 "Best of the Valley by City." The company is now under the leadership of Artistic Director Jerome Elliott and Executive Director Shawn Abramowitz.
