In a culture where people fear the luxury of getting older, The Mama Foundation for The Arts dismisses the notion with the opening of its Spring 2017 season with ALIVE! 55+ and Kickin', directed by acclaimed playwright Ken Wydro and produced by award-wining and living legend producer Vy Higginsen. ALIVE! is a healing journey about the transformative power of song in the lives of people born before the internet became king. Weaving the testimonies of everyday people into a fabric of triumph, ALIVE! lifts ordinary people who have lived extra-ordinary lives— standing strong at 55+ to tell their stories to another generation with the wisdom only age can deliver. This show is not only about overcoming, it is a jamming celebration of the soundtrack of that generation’s life, blending Gospel, Jazz, R&B, Doo Wop and Pop music to produce a playlist you will never want to skip. ALIVE! tells how it used to be and how life could be going forward and proves that it’s never too late to live a dream.
