Plays by Dano Madden and More Set for The Artful Conspirators' 2nd Annual Open Rehearsal Series, Beg. 9/9

By:

Brooklyn based theatre collective The Artful Conspirators announce this year's Open Rehearsal Series. Plays in development will include new works by Dano Madden, Monica Flory and David A. Miller.

The series will kick off on Sunday, September 9th with OAKWOODS by Dano Madden (LEAVING IKEA, IN THE SAWTOOTHS, DROP). In OAKWOODS George Marvin has attracted national attention to tiny Oakwoods with his award winning science project. This notoriety, along with the construction of a housing development and resort, has the fading mountain town standing on the verge of being reborn. Will a dark discovery derail this newfound hope? Madden says, "OAKWOODS is a story about accomplishments beyond our wildest dreams and the unexpected places they can lead us."

The series will continue on October 20th with SCOTTISH PLAY by Monica Flory (LEAVING IKEA, PETER AND ALICE, AFTERLIGHT). The final exploration will be on November 18th with MYSTIC IN THE SAVAGE STATE by David A. Miller (BROOKLYN UNDERGROUND, SECOND PIPE OF DESIRE, JOURNEYMAN OF BREUCKELEN).

The Open Rehearsal Series was developed as a platform for The Artful Conspirators resident/invited playwrights to explore the text of new works in a creative and active environment. Text exploration will vary per show but will include table-work, read- throughs and practical scene-study.

Keeping in line with their Mission of "audience as an active participant in the theatre- making process" the Conspirators invite audiences to attend these open rehearsals and assume the role of Dramaturg.

Installment #1:OAKWOODS will be presented Sunday, September 9th from 2:30pm- 5:00pm at ART/NY S. Oxford Space (138 S. Oxford Street, Brooklyn). Admission is free of charge and space is limited. To reserve a seat, e-mail artfulconspirators@gmail.com.

The Conspirators have previously presented fully developed productions of LEAVING IKEA: A PLAY IN TWO CANTOS (which was derived from audience response to 30 IDEAS ONE OF THEM GOOD) and BROOKLYN UNDERGROUND: THEATRICAL STORIES FROM THE GREEN-WOOD CEMETERY. BROOKLYN UNDERGROUND was originally produced at the Old Stone House in Brooklyn and was subsequently invited for a run at the Green-Wood Cemetery, which is a recognized National Historic Landmark.

The Artful Conspirators are a Brooklyn-based collective of theater artists dedicated to creating new theatrical work that includes the audience as a participant in the theatre- making process. The Conspirators aim to nurture the work of both emerging and established artists through developmental workshops, full productions, and education programs.
