THE BATTLE OF STALINGRAD Plays Lincoln Center Fest, 7/20-25
By: BWW News Desk
Master puppet theater artist Rezo Gabriadze's The Battle of Stalingrad, the critically- acclaimed elegy to individuals whose lives are ravaged by war, replaces his previously-announced new production, Ermon and Ramona, at the Lincoln Center Festival this July 20 -25. Because of health reasons, Mr. Gabriadze was not able to complete Ermon and Ramona in time for the festival. In response to the great public enthusiasm for The Battle of Stalingrad (which was a sell-out at Lincoln Center Festival 2002), Gabriadze's puppet theater company, Tbilisi Municipal Theatre Studio, has decided to revive it for this year's festival.
The Battle of Stalingrad is told in miniature and understatement as it dramatizes a huge topic: the Nazi siege of Stalingrad. A poignant blend of puppetry, art, cinema, poetry, and drama, it is performed in Russian with English subtitles, to a soundtrack created by Gabriadze. The Battle of Stalingrad will have ten performances at the Clark Studio Theater, 165 W. 65th Street, 7th floor. The tickets are priced at $50 and $60.customerservice@lincolncenter.org.
