MY SON THE WAITER to Close at The Triad on New Year's Eve; Plans National Tour

By:

MY SON THE WAITER, Brad Zimmerman's long-running one-man comedy will serve its last jokes at The Triad Theatre on New Year's Eve. The little hit-that-could, produced by Dana Matthow and Philip Roger Roy of Playhouse Productions, passed the one-year mark on October 10. During the course of its nearly 15-month run Zimmerman's self-skewering account of three decades of underachievement as a beloved bad waiter will have made more than 12,800 mothers proud that Zimmerman is not their son.

The Off-Broadway gut-buster plays a special Christmas Eve show on Thursday December 24 at 7pm, and a New Year's Eve Grand Farewell Performance on Thursday December 31, also at 7pm.

Plans for a national tour for MY SON THE WAITER are currently being finalized. Until then audience members will have no choice but to make their way to New York, where the playing schedule is Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7pm, and Sundays at 2pm.

Written and directed by Zimmerman, MY SON THE WAITER tells the story of how Zimmerman, now 62, waited tables in New York for a mind-numbing 29 years before finally overcoming his fears to study stand-up comedy, and write a one-man show about waiting until his mid-50s to perform on stage.

An Oradell NJ native, Zimmerman started his waiting career in the late '70s eventually working at a string of now defunct restaurants where he insists he never memorized the menu, making an art form out of underselling the food.

The late-blooming Zimmerman first made his comedy mark as a regular opening for legends Joan Rivers and George Carlin. (Rivers once called him "the best comic... in his price range.") Despite these successes Zimmerman was not able to wean himself off of waiting until 2012.

For tickets, which range from $45 to $99 (+ a 2-drink minimum), call Smarttix at 212/868-4444 or visit www.mysonthewaiter.com (Running time is 90 minutes).

In addition to MY SON THE WAITER, Playhouse Productions, Inc. is responsible for the successful tours of "My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish & I'm in Therapy," "RESPECT: A Musical Journey of Women," "Old Jews Telling Jokes" and "You Say Tomato, I Say Shut UP!".
