Jack Feldstein's FALLING IN LOVE WITH MR. DELLAMORT to Utilize Theremin as Dominant Instrument

By: Dec. 27, 2014

Writer Jack Feldstein is exploring a new venue to use his new favorite intrument: musicals.

Feldstein recently discovered a wind instrument called the theremin, which is similar to a synthesizer, creating music by moving hands above the instrument in patterns to create an eerie sound.

"It's like having an imaginary friend as an instrument," says Feldstein, who says he does not play very well yet. He discovered his love for musicals after moving to New York from Sydney a few years ago, and ever since then has been observing how difficult writing the perfect musical is- but he's up for the challenge.

He has envisioned a musical using theremin, and he already has a New York producer backing it, hoping to open Off-Broadway next year after the $1 million goal is reached.

"We're getting the team together," Feldstein says. "We're working with really good people, the best people really in New York."

With book and lyrics by Feldstein, the musical is called FALLING IN LOVE WITH MR. DELLAMORT, the plot of which Feldstein describes as "death falls in love." The theremin will serve as the primary instrument and almost another character.

"We have an ease about us," says Feldstein. "The rest of the world doesn't have that. They're really uptight. But we Australians, we're kind of not. We're chilled or something. And people love it. It really works here. I'm telling you, the New Yorkers need it."
