Award-winning pianist and singer Diana Krall will perform at Carnegie Hall Tuesday, June 23 and Wednesday, June 24 at 8pm. "An Evening With Diana Krall" will appear in the Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage.

Since her 2001 CD When I Look in Your Eyes became the first jazz disc in 25 years to be nominated for the Grammy's Album of the Year, Diana Krall has remained one of the most exciting and popular jazz vocalists of our time.

This concert draws from her latest CD Quiet Nights, an album inspired by Brazil's bossa nova wave (literally "new bump" or "new way" in Portuguese), the widely popular musical style, based on the country's traditional samba rhythms, that began in the sidewalk cafes of Rio in the early 1960s. With its hypnotic, swaying beats, sultry melodies, and new, exciting harmonies, this musical style leaves room for Krall's jazz improvisation.

A recording artist for over 16 years, Krall has released such hit albums as The Look of Love, The Girl in the Other Room, and From This Moment On.

Tickets range from $55 to $150, and may be purchased online at www.carnegiehall.org, by phone by calling CarnegieCharge at 212-247-7800, or in person at the box office, located at the corner of 57th Street and Seventh Avenue.

Diana Krall was born in Nanaimo, Canada, to a musical family - her father is a stride-style pianist and serious record collector - and she grew up absorbing music that guided her future growth. She attended Berklee School of Music in the early 1980s, and then moved to Los Angeles where she continued her studies with bassists Ray Brown and John Clayton, drummer Jeff Hamilton and pianist Jimmy Rowles; Rowles convinced the young pianist to focus on her singing as well. By 1990, Krall relocated to New York City and began performing with a trio, and in 1993, she released her debut album on a small Canadian independent label.

In 1999, Krall signed to Verve, and her career took off when When I Look in Your Eyes won a GRAMMY® for Best Jazz Vocal and became the first jazz disc to be nominated for Album of the Year in twenty-five years. In 2002, The Look of Love was a #1 bestseller in the US and a five-time platinum album in Canada. 2004's The Girl in the Other Room, was her first to focus on her own songwriting (with six tunes co-written with husband Elvis Costello); 2005's Christmas Songs proved one of the season's best-sellers; and 2006's From This Moment On was an upbeat, critical success that coincided with the birth of her twin sons.
