ANGRY YOUNG WOMEN Will Play Theater for the New City, 12/3 Thru 12/20
ANGRY YOUNG WOMEN IN LOW RISE JEANS WITH HIGH CLASS ISSUES, written and directed by Matt Morillo, will play Theater for the New City from December 3rd through the 20th.
The play is a light-to-serious look at the psychology of nervous urban goddesses. In a series of comic vignettes, they go head to head with such issues as Electra complexes, bikini waxes, low rider jeans, their oversexed mothers, thongs, brazen teenagers, men's sexual fantasies, side effects of birth control drugs, mean teenagers on the subway, sympathy sex and the artistic integrity of penises and vaginas in independent films.
In the last two years, "Angry Young Women" has had three sold out runs in NYC (two Off Off Broadway and one Off Broadway), one in L.A., and two separate four-week runs in Sydney, Australia. Its title is now an idiom and it has amassed an enthusiastic fan base. The play, Morillo's first, was published by Samuel French, along with Morillo's second play, "All Aboard the Marriage Hearse."
THEATER FOR THE NEW CITY (TNC) is a Pulitzer Prize winning community cultural center that is known for its high artistic standards and widespread community service. TNC seeks to develop theater audiences and inspire future theater artists from the often-overlooked low-income minority communities of New York City by producing minority writers from around the world and by bringing the community into theater and theater into the community through its many free Festivals. TNC productions have won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and over 40 OBIE Awards for excellence in every theatrical discipline.
