Firehouse Theatre Project Presents Stand-up Comedy Workshop With Eddie Sarfaty

By:

The Firehouse Theatre Project is proud to present a two-week stand-up comedy workshop taught by comedian Eddie Sarfaty, beginning Monday, March 28, 2011.

The workshop will be held from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from March 28 until April 8, 2011. It consists of six, two-hour classroom sessions. In addition to group classes where students will have the opportunity to develop material, the course will include individual one-on-one writing and coaching sessions and will culminate with students performing their material at a class showcase during a Comedy Benefit Show hosted by Sarfaty on Sunday, April 10 at 8:00 p.m at the Firehouse Theatre.

Cost for the workshop is $160. Individuals can take advantage of our early registration discount of $145 by signing up before February 13, 2011.

To ready themselves for the stage, participants will search out the universal aspects of their own experiences, opinions, and relationships, and forge unique comedic personas. There will be a strong emphasis on the craft of joke writing, and students will discuss the work of pioneering comedians such as Woody Allen, Richard Pryor, Joan Rivers, Bob Newhart, Lily Tomlin, Ellen Degeneres, George Carlin, and Chris Rock.

About Eddie Sarfaty:

Eddie has been featured at Montreal's Just for Laughs Comedy Festival and appeared on The Today Show, Comedy Central's Premium Blend, and Logo's stand-up show, Wisecrack. He is on the faculty of The Theatre Lab in Washington, DC, and at New York University where he teaches workshops on comedy writing and performing. In 2008 Eddie's short story "Second-Guessing Grandma", was made into a film starring Tony-Award nominee Kathleen Chalfant. It has been featured at festivals across the USA as well as in Europe and South America. Eddie's first book, a collection of comic essays entitled Mental: Funny in the Head was released by Kensington Press in 2009 to excellent reviews.

Eddie is also one of the subjects of the documentary Laughing Matters, which was screened at numerous film festivals before being put into frequent rotation on Logo. He has written material for comedian Judy Gold and for the divine Bette Midler. He is currently collaborating with comedian Bob Smith (The Tonight Show, HBO, Mad TV) on a screenplay about the effects of fame and Red Bull on a frumpy housewife from Buffalo.
