Two photographic exhibitions closing this Saturday and only two weeks left to see the return season of Cafe Scheherazade!

Large Gallery: Meyer Gallery presents Luke Hardy
Yuki Onna & Dragon Fly
Until Saturday 3 Spetember

The story of Yuki Onna (Woman of the Snow) is a ghost story, one which has frightened Japanese children for generations. Personifying Winter, Yuki Onna in Luke Hardy's poetic photographic essay, is dressed in a white wedding kimono and headdress, a mysterious and distant figure. The lighting of the elaborately woven garments is superb.

The subject of Dragonfly is a heroic figure, a yabusame archer in glorious feudal livery, a calvaryman on a flying white horse, equally mysterious and enigmatic.

Luke Hardy is presented by Meyer Gallery, Sydney.

Small Gallery: Sarina Lirosi
BEST BEFORE
Until Saturday 3 September

BEST BEFORE is an intensely personal exhibition, based around experiences with death and illness. Sarina Lirosi has used the unlikely combination of used soap fragments, plus Polaroid "skins" depicting human skin, folds, moles and hair. The soaps are donations from family and friends, given only at the point of being considered "expired". One reaction to these tiny works is that with their small scale and what appear to be burnished surfaces, they are reminiscent of Victorian mourning brooches, in which locks of hair from the loved one is encased in a glass fronted locket.

Artist Talk: On Saturday 3 September at 2pm Luke Hardy and Sarina Lirosi will both be in the gallery to talk about their work. All are welcome, admission is free.

Classical Music: TriStan Lee
Piano recital

Folowing on from tonights performance by Joshua Hyde we can promise another treat for music lovers with this recital by TriStan Lee, who is now forging a career as a concert pianist in the UK and in Europe. This is his annual trip to his home town, his fourth appearance over the years at fortyfivedownstairs. He is presenting a wonderfully romantic program - Mozart, Brahms, Liszt and finally Beethoven. If you missed the piano recital by Coady Green last week it was a virtuoso performance, rapturously received. We have no doubt there will be the same reaction next Monday, when we hear how this brilliant young pianist is developing in the highly competitive European sphere.

Date: Monday 5 September
Time: 7.30pm
Tickets: Full $30, Concession $25

Coming up: The Dollhouse
After Henrik Ibsen, directed by Daniel Schlusser
Thursday 15 - Sunday 25 September

The Dollhouse a classic play about the modern condition.
This production by Daniel Schlusser of Henrik Ibsen's great play, is masterfully transposed to contemporary domestic horror, demonstraiting why Daniel Schlusser has achieved cult status with his radical interpretations. Hysterical about sex, money and property, subject to fierce yet mindless moralising, Nora's journey from yummy mummy to liberated woman is one of the most famous in theatre history.
