PSC Community and Youth Theatres Host Fundraiser Today, Sept 29

For those who enjoyed Showboat Festival Theatre's Back in '59 at the Hudson Village Theatre (HVT) this past summer, and so many did the box office could barely keep up, the hits just keep on comin'. Thom Currie, the creator and director of that little gem, returns to Montreal with another sell-out show, Mama's Country Record Collection, playing for one week only at HVT from October 24th to 28th, 2012.

Montreal's Talisman Theatre will present the Canadian English-language premiere of The Medea Effect at Theatre La Chapelle from October 11-20. The show was written by Quebecoise playwright Suzie Bastien and translated for Talisman Theatre by Nadine Desrochers. Emma Tibaldo directs the cast, which stars Eloi ArchamBaudoin as Ugo and Jennifer Morehouse as Ada.

The city's newest theatre company, Metachroma Theatre is Montreal's only independent theatre company of professional actors of colour; an important new addition to the local arts scene, contributing to the Canadian theatre landscape as a whole. They present their inaugural production, William Shakespeare's great history play, Richard III, from tonight, Sept. 19-30 at the Segal Centre for Performing Arts, directed by Joel Miller. The production features some of Montreal's top actors, along with talented guest artists. The Segal Centre team is looking forward to this Metachroma Theatre production, kicking off a great season.

Blyth Festival Appoints Peter Smith as Interim Artistic Director

The Board of Directors of the Blyth Centre for the Arts has announced the appointment of Peter Smith as Interim Artistic Director of the Blyth Festival. Board President, Wendy Hoernig reported that the theatre had received a large number of very impressive applications. "It speaks very highly of the calibre of theatre talent in our country," she declared. "It also made the final choice extremely difficult. However we feel that we've made the right decision for this interim position. Peter is passionate about our community, our theatre and the importance of telling our stories. We are delighted to have him returning, and are all looking forward to an exciting theatre season next year."

To celebrate their 20th birthday, Hudson Village Theatre (HVT) returns to its roots for the annual gala on September 15th. Riding the successful wave of their spring fundraising drive, a matched donation campaign initiated by a local anonymous supporter that raised almost $100,000, this event will seal the deal for the exciting season HVT is assembling for 2012-13. HVT General Manager Kalina Skulska put it simply: "If people liked what they saw this summer, they should come to this event to make sure it happens again next year."

The play, first performed in 1994, is a Montreal premiere opening tonight, August 8th and running until September 2nd with several matinée performances during the week as well as on the weekends.
