To mark the UN's Universal Children's Day, Isabelle Bonnal, Monaco's Director of Education, Youth and Sport, has chosen to link it with 2015 – Russian Year in Monaco, so at the Monegasque government's invitation, the Loktev Russian folk ensemble formed in 1937 will give a public performance at the Grimaldi Forum on Friday 20 November at 7.30pm.
This event will further strengthen the links between our two countries by bringing youngsters from both together in one show. First Monegasque school children will give a performance, followed by the Loktev Ensemble of around 60 young artistes aged 7 to 17 performing folk dances; students of the Académie de Musique Prince Rainier III will also play selected pieces from their repertoire.
Over 20 years ago Prince Rainier III asked Monaco's Department of Education, Youth and Sport to organise Universal Children's Day in the Principality. This mobilisation of its education community to celebrate the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the United Nations General Assembly on 20 November 1989 continues today under the auspices of HSH Prince Albert II.
