David Van Reybrouck was born in Bruges in 1971. He studied archeology and history in Leuven and Cambridge, but is also a doctor of philosophy from the University of Leiden .. He wrote a history of Congo in Dutch in 2010 which has sold 400,000 copies.
To write this monologue drama "Mission", he recorded the testimonies of dozens of missionaries, mostly white fathers.
"Mission" is the poignant cry of a missionary who has lived 50 years in the Congo. He talks about his real desire to improve the lot of the people he meets, away from the Speech from the Vatican and the materialistic wealth of Flanders today.
