Education Coordinator (Part-time/Hourly)
The Education Coordinator will act as lead teaching artist and manage the administration needs of Detroit Public Theatre’s growing education programs. DPT has partnered with the Detroit Public Schools Community District since its first season to engage high school students with arts-integrated curricula connected to our productions. This position will report to the Producing Artistic Director overseeing community programs and will work directly with the artistic and general management teams. Interviews are scheduled to begin the week of January 6, 2025 Job Details: Job Type: Part-time (Approximately 10 hours/week; Hybrid) Weekly schedules fluctuate to align with company and event needs Salary: $25/hr Position Start Date: February 3, 2025 Programmatic Duties Work with Producing Artistic Directors to design lesson plans connecting productions to academic curriculum Lead in-classroom lessons at partner schools Lead post-show discussions with students Draft reports of each in-class lesson and post-show discussion Manage the program evaluation process, including adapting, administering, and recording, analyzing and reporting on student surveys Collaborate with Producing Artistic Directors in identification and confirmation of new education partners Administrative Duties Coordinate and schedule student matinees Coordinate and schedule in-classroom lessons with partner schools Coordinate with Stage Management and Production Manager to schedule and prepare actors for in-classroom lessons and post-show discussions Organize transportation with partner schools for student matinees Collaborate with Associate General Manager to arrange front-of-house coverage for student matinees Collaborate with Associate General Manager to arrange lunch/refreshments for student matinees Qualifications: Education and Experience Though degrees in related fields are welcomed, no educational threshold is required as a prerequisite to employment 3 to 6 years of related experience or training is encouraged for this position Computer Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Suite. Proficiency in creation and organization of team cloud drive platforms (such as google drive and Monday). Language Skills Experience creating and/or leading lesson plans Comfort facilitating large group conversations. Reading, interpretation, and thorough communication of information including, but not limited to evaluation data and contractual agreements. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Proficiency in proofreading skills for official documents as needed. Practical Skills/Requirements Experience working with high school students Experience in theatre as an artist or technician Reliable transportation and a valid state-issued ID or driver's license are required.
