Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC), a Tony Award-winning nonprofit theatre dedicated to the production of contemporary plays and musicals, seeks a Development Assistant. For fifty years, MTC has been the creative and artistic home for America’s most gifted theatrical artists, producing works of the highest quality by American and international playwrights. We are strongly committed to producing work that is made by, and tells the stories of, a wide range of voices from all walks of life and to making that work accessible to all audiences including those that have historically lacked access to the arts and cultural sector. MTC produces up to eight plays annually in Broadway's restored Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on West 47th Street and off Broadway at the historic NY City Center complex on West 55th Street.



Summary Description:

MTC’s Development Assistant is responsible for providing best-in-class customer service to our constituents, managing confidential research, proposals, and record keeping, and offering exceptional administrative support for the entire fundraising team. This person initiates projects and coordinates across departments and external vendors. The Development Assistant assists the team with managing relationships with hundreds of households and institutions, facilitating efforts to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors and prospects. .

Job Responsibilities:

Patron Services:

• Provide outstanding, relational, welcoming, and anticipatory service for hotlines and inboxes.

o Process gifts, memberships, ticket orders, events registrations.

o Respond to inquiries or feedback. Troubleshoot with other departments where required.



Administration

• Update records, enter data, write meeting minutes, and manage department calendars.

• Provide support for Development Operations, Special Events, Institutional Giving, and other department as needed.

• Manage Patron Lounges and maintain inventory of refreshments

• Secure and track inventory of signed posters and Playbills

• Other responsibilities as assigned.



Fundraising

• Support all donor communication including welcomes, season mailings, benefit fulfillment, seat notes, gift acknowledgements, payment reminders, and associated communications to donors and prospects.

• Oversee research process for patrons, prospects, and foundations in coordination with trainee (when available.)

• Represent MTC at special events as assigned



Requirements:

• Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and public communication skills.

• Excellent judgment, time management, organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to work independently, in a fast paced environment, handle multiple tasks and deadlines.

• Familiarity with marketing, fundraising, sales, or customer service experience are expected.

• Prior administrative experience and ability to work evening hours also required.

• Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment.

• A working knowledge of Tessitura, Basecamp, Microsoft office, the New York City theatre community and non-profit structures a plus.

• An ambitious and willing attitude to learn & grow. Attentive, flexible, pro-active, collaborative individual with willingness to explore artificial intelligence tools and software.



This is a full-time, in-person position at MTC’s administrative office (311 West 43rd Street, New York, NY). Some evening and occasional weekend work are required. The salary for this position is $42K annually. MTC offers a full benefits package, including a choice health plan with options for spousal, family and/or domestic partner coverage, basic life and long term disability insurance, paid time off and optional 401(k), voluntary dental and flex savings plans for healthcare, dependent care, and commuting expenses.
