Washington and Eisenstadt Present are bringing literature to life with “Spoon River”, playing June 8-9 at The Studio at The Carrollwood Cultural Center. This original stage adaptation of the poetry collection by Edgar Lee Masters, published in 1916, is about the secrets which form or lives, as revealed in death.
“Spoon River” explores themes of humanity, morality, shame, loss, and regret. The cast of 12 portray 33 of the deceased residents of the fictional town of Spoon River, each sharing with the audience stories of their lives and, occasionally, their deaths. As adapted and directed by Keith Eisenstadt, the characters exist in a shared isolation, discovering individuality within the greater community.
