A zany, backstage comedy about what happens when a writer's dream of bringing his Broadway play to life is maligned by a very difficult leading lady.
(THE PLAYWRIGHT) — ROLE CAST. Can play the role of male, mid-30s, white. ‘Jack Hawkins’. A witty, well-groomed and charming storyteller. Terrific sense of humor, slightly neurotic, and somewhat naïve. With excellent, fast-paced comic timing.
(THE ACTRESS) — ROLE CAST. Female, 50s+, white. ‘Brooke Remington’. Age unknown. Once a huge movie star. Now a has-been. Notoriously impossible. Certifiably insane.
(THE DIRECTOR) — ROLE CAST. Male, 60s, white. ‘Oliver Kendall-Walker’. A proper gentleman. Pretentious yet endearing. Although grandiose, he provides calm and comfort.
(THE PRODUCER) — ROLE CAST. Male, 50s, white. ‘Freddie Carlton’. A down-on-his-luck opportunist and fast-talking salesman lacking a moral compass. Though miserly, shady and manipulative, there’s a glimmer of the dream still alive deep down. With excellent, fast-paced comic timing.
(THE PROMPTER) — ROLE CAST. Male, 30s, BIPOC. ‘Tobias Deschanel’. Flamboyant, ferocious, and clever cross-dressing “entrepreneur”. Quippy and blasé but direct. Will do anything to make a buck and suffers no fools while doing so. You want it done—he’s your guy… or gal. With excellent, fast-paced comic timing.
(THE STAGE MANAGER) — ROLE CAST. Female, mid-30s–40s, white. ‘Liz Jennings’. A well-organized, level-headed, unflappable professional. No funny business here. Dry, deadpan and used to wrangling rooms of crazies—aka Artists. With excellent, fast-paced comic timing.
