SYNOPSIS: Anne has a disease you’ve probably never heard of and it doesn’t have a cure. Her doctor says it shouldn’t define her, but she’s going to define it for you. In 2017, Anne was diagnosed with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP) — a condition shared by her mother and grandmother, each of whom approached their disability in their own unique ways. Since her 30s, Anne has navigated the slow but steady atrophying of her upper motor neurons, which manage her ability to walk. Watch Me Walk is a hilarious, biting, and compassionate new play about disability, pity, injustice, and family mythologies.
[ANNE GRIDLEY] ROLE HAS BEEN CAST, (she/her, 40's). [ADONIS 1] Male presenting, 20s-30s, any ethnicity. One of Anne's backup performers, in amazing shape - the 2 Adonis’ are, in the dream sequence of Anne's story, her dreamy sidekicks. Part backup singer/dancer, part security, they take care of Anne with a wink and a smile, and likely a sequined top hat to boot.
