SEEKING:

REVEREND SAMUEL PARRIS (male-identifying, age 30s-50s). The minister of Salem's church. He takes pride in his power, which he believes is divined from above, and is appalled by those who would question it or challenge him.

TITUBA (African-American, female-identifying, age 20s-50s). An enslaved woman in the Parris household. She is accused of witchcraft, and pressured to participate in the accusations, and is ultimately haunted by hallucinations.

ABIGAIL WILLIAMS (female-identifying, age late teens - early 20s). Reverend Parris's niece. Abigail once served in the Proctor household, but Elizabeth fired her after discovering that Abigail was having an affair with John. Abigail has intelligence and street smarts, but the traumas she's experienced in her past leaves her rageful and ready to fight for her own survival no matter the costs.

SUSANNA WALLCOTT (female-identifying, age late teens - early 20s). One of Abigail's group of girls who participates in the ritual in the woods. She's nervous and worried. She works for Dr. Griggs.

THOMAS PUTNAM (male-identifying, age 30s-50s). A wealthy and influential member of the community, who uses the trials to increase his own wealth by buying up the land of those he personally accuses of witchcraft.

ANN PUTNAM (female-identifying, age 30s-50s). Thomas's wife. Only one of her eight children has survived (Ruth), and Ann is convinced that the other 7, all of whom died at a day old, were murdered by supernatural means.

MERCY LEWIS (female-identifying, age late teens - early 20s). Described as sly and merciless, she looks to Abigail to learn how to have power in a world working to strip it from her.

MARY WARREN (female-identifying, age late teens - early 20s). A servant in the Proctor household and one of Abigail's group of girls. She's timid and easily influenced by those around her. She tries to expose the hoax but is stopped by the other girls from doing so. She ultimately recants her confession of witchcraft and turns on John Proctor.

JOHN PROCTOR (male-identifying, age 30s-40s). A local farmer who lives just outside of Salem. Elizabeth Proctor's husband. He carries a heavy burden which gives him a quickness to anger and even violence and makes him allergic to hypocrisy. He is a man who is searching for the truth of who he is, and once he finds it, it leads to his death.

ELIZABETH PROCTOR (female-identifying, age late 20s-40s). John Proctor's wife. She is virtuous and uses that as a way to protect herself from her more complex feelings about her husband and herself.

FRANCIS NURSE (male-identifying, age 40s-60s). A wealthy man who is respected by most people in Salem but is an enemy of Thomas and Ann Putnam.

REBECCA NURSE (female-identifying, age 40s-80s). Francis's wife. Wise, sensible, and upright, and held in high esteem by most of the community. She falls victim to the hysteria when she is accused of witchcraft and refuses to confess.

GILES COREY (male-identifying, age 50s-80s). An elderly farmer and friend to John Proctor. He is famous for his litigious nature. His wife is one of the accused, and he is eventually held in contempt of court and sentenced to death. Nonetheless, he still refuses to accuse anyone else or confess.

REVEREND JOHN HALE (male-identifying, age late 20s-40s). A young minister reputed to be an expert on witchcraft who is called in to examine Betty Parris. He has a critical mind and that saves him from falling into the blind fervor his arrival creates. He comes to regret his part in the hysteria and tries to save the lives of the accused.

DEPUTY-GOVERNOR DANFORTH (male-identifying, age 30s-60s). Deputy Governor of Massachusetts, and the presiding judge over the witch trials. He sees himself as honest and scrupulous and is convinced that he is doing right.

JUDGE HATHORNE (male-identifying, age 30s-60s). Second in command to Danforth, and also a judge presiding over the trials. Cold and antagonistic, he believes strongly in his own importance, and is willfully ignorant to any dissent coming from the community.

EZEKIEL CHEEVER (male-identifying, age late 20s-50s). He does what he feels he needs to in order to survive. He acts as the clerk of the court during the trials. He quickly turns on his former friends and handles their arrests.

JOHN WILLARD (male-identifying, age 30s-50s). The deputy jailer of the court.

SARAH GOOD (female-identifying, age 20s-30s). One of the first to be accused, she is poor and often rejected by the community. Pregnant at the trial, she gives birth while in jail, but the baby dies. Her prolonged imprisonment, combined with the loss of her child, drives her to madness.

The ability to lean into a vintage 1920s-1950s vaudeville/musical comedy vocal sensibility (bright, brassy, and occasionally operatic) is also a plus.

SEEKING:

THE MAN IN THE CHAIR (male-identifying, age 30s-60s). A musical theatre aficionado who narrates the show from his apartment while listening to a vintage LP record. He is a lonely soul who fills his time by escaping into the world of old Broadway shows, but he still urgently wants to find connection, so the audience becomes his focus. His passion and type-A personality can seem odd or off-putting to some. Vocal range (minimal singing): Bass/Baritone character singer (G2-C4).

JANET VAN de GRAAFF (female-identifying, age 20s-30s). A glamorous and famous star/bride who claims she wants to give up her career for love. This role requires strong dance technique and style. Vocal range: Alto/Mezzo with a strong belt (G3-E5, optional A5).

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE (female-identifying, age 40s-50s). Janet's brassy, larger-than-life, constantly intoxicated, confidante. A classic powerhouse diva role. Vocal range: Alto with strong belt (F3-D5).

ROBERT MARTIN (male-identifying, age 20s-30s). The dashing, perpetually optimistic groom and matinee idol. His comedy comes from his honest naivete. Must be able to tap dance and roller skate. Vocal range: Tenor or High Baritone (C3-A4).

VICTOR FELDZIEG (male-identifying, age 40s-60s). A stressed-out Broadway producer so desperate to stop Janet from quitting he works with mob investors. Vocal range: Baritone (Db3-Db4).

ALDOLPHO (male-identifying, age 30s-50s). A vain, self-absorbed European ladies man. He's a buffoon who loves grand physical comedy and operatic comedic delivery. Vocal range: Bass/Baritone with solid G4 and strong falsetto (A#2-A4).

MRS. TOTTENDALE (female-identifying, age 40s-60s). The wealthy, eccentric, absent-minded widow hosting the wedding. She's high energy, and the role requires physical gags (such as spit takes). Vocal range: Alto character voice (F3-Db5).

UNDERLING (male-identifying, age 20s-50s). Mrs. Tottendale's dry, stoic, and sarcastic butler who acts as her deadpan comic foil. Vocal range: Tenor character voice (Ab2-Gb4).

KITTY (female-identifying, age 20s-40s). Mr. Feldzieg's dim-witted companion who desperately wants to replace Janet as the star. Vocal range: Soprano with comedic belt (Bb3-F5).

GEORGE (male-identifying, age 20s-50s). Robert's high-strung, anxious, but well-meaning, best man. Must be able to tap. Vocal range: Tenor (F3-Bb4)

GANGSTER 1/ENSEMBLE (male-identifying, age 20s-40s). A mobster who is posing as a pastry chef. Uses vaudevillian double-entendre comedy and has tight harmony singing. Dance skills are also required. Vocal range: Tenor (Db3-Gb4)

TRIX THE AVIATRIX /ENSEMBLE (female-identifying, age 20s-40s). The bold and brash female pilot who arrives just in time to save the plot with a punchy cameo vocal. Vocal range: Mezzo (Ab3-Eb5)

ENSEMBLE (1 male-identifying, 1 female-identifying) Roles require strong musical singing, and the ability to learn and sustain harmonies. Dance ability, physical comedy, and strong acting are also required.

SEEKING:

ABBY BREWSTER (female-identifying, age 50s-70s). A model of Victorian charm and grace. A bit older and more dominant than her sister Martha, she is happy and spry, but definitely the stronger personality of the two. Mortimer's aunt.

MARTHA BREWSTER (female-identifying, age 50s-70s). Like her sister, she is very sweet, but a bit more submissive than Abby. Mortimer's aunt.

ELAINE HARPER (female-identifying, age 20s-30s). The daughter of Rev. Harper, and Mortimer's fiancée. Spunky and smart, she is more worldly-wise than one might expect from a reverend's daughter. She goes on a big emotional journey through the show – from happiness to terror and back again.

MORTIMER BREWSTER (male-identifying, age 20s-40s) Nephew to Abby and Martha, brother to Teddy and Jonathan, and engaged to Elaine. A theatre critic for the newspaper. Likeable and charming, and a bit cynical. His world gets turned upside down. A very physical role.

TEDDY BREWSTER (male-identifying, age 30s-50s) Believes he is the 26th President of the United States. Likeable and kind-hearted, he's been in the long-term care of Abby and Martha. Has to run up and down stairs a lot.

JONATHAN BREWSTER (male-identifying, age 30s-50s). Mortimer's estranged brother, he's a psychopath with numerous murders to his credit. Creepy and short-tempered. He's had several plastic surgeries to change his appearance, and now resembles Boris Karloff, which he is a bit sensitive about. A physical role.

DR. EINSTEIN (male-identifying, age 30s-50s). A German plastic surgeon and right-hand man to Jonathan. He should evoke some empathy, as he has been ensnared by Jonathan and cannot escape. Often in a haze of alcohol, he is a bit disheveled in appearance.

THE REVEREND DR. HARPER (male-identifying, age 40s-60s). Elaine's father and minister of the church that is next door to the Brewster house, and a favorite of the sisters. While he is generally kind, he is a bit mannered, and not a fan of his daughter's relationship.

OFFICER BROPHY (male-identifying, age 20s-40s). A Brooklyn police officer. Likeable. We meet him as he's collecting Christmas toys for the needy. Some physical work in this role.

OFFICER KLEIN (male-identifying, age 20s-40s). A flatfoot Brooklyn police officer making the rounds with Officer Brophy.

OFFICER O'HARA (male-identifying, any age). A Brooklyn police officer of Irish descent. Full of life, good-natured, and on very good terms with Abby and Martha. He's a would-be playwright, and anxious for Mortimer to take a look at his work. He's well-intentioned, but a little bit annoying in his persistence.

MR. GIBBS (male-identifying, age 50s-70s). An elderly gentleman who wishes to rent a room from the sisters, and nearly one of the victims of their charity. He's a little gruff to start but warms up to them when offered a treat.

LIEUTENANT ROONEY (male-identifying, age 40s-50s). The man in charge at the local precinct. He has little patience for the mistakes his men often make and has to run a tight ship. He is loud, decisive, and confident.

MR. WITHERSPOON (male-identifying, age 40s-60s). The superintendent of Happy Dale Sanitarium. Mild-mannered and kind.

CELESTE FIELDING (female-identifying, age 40s-50s). The diva and ringleader of the group. She's the glue that holds them all together. Plays Henry IV and Henry V.

ELLSWORTH SNOW (male-identifying, age 50s-70s). The conservative Board president of the Oberon Play House and the husband of Winifred. He's prickly on the outside, but is a doting husband to Winifred.

WINIFRED SNOW (female-identifying, age 40s-70s). An inexperienced but enthusiastic actor. She's a socialite who discovers her own wit and humor. Plays Falstaff.

STUART LASKER (male-identifying, age 30s-40s). The quip-ready stage manager who finally shows the world the best side of himself. Plays Mistress Quickly.

IDA GREEN (African-American, female-identifying, age 30s-40s). The imaginative costume designer whose vision pushes the show into a modern perspective in more ways than one. Plays Hotspur.

JUNE BENNETT (female-identifying, age late teens-early 20s). The ingenue, and full of curiosity and optimism. Plays the Kates.

GRACE RICHARDS (female-identifying, age 20s-30s). A raw talent who finds the power to lead. Plays Henry IV and V.

THE TWO NOBLE KINSMEN

This show will be performed with an ensemble of 8 actors, each playing multiple roles. Doubling here is tentative and subject to change.

SEEKING:

EMILIA (female-identifying, age late 20s-40s). Sister to Hippolyta, she is an Amazon and a warrior who is skilled in battle. Emilia is caught between competing visions of love while trying to maintain her own autonomy.

JAILER'S DAUGHTER/2nd GRIEVING QUEEN/VENUS (female-identifying, age 20s-30s). An immature, romantic, young woman. In love with Palamon, she figures out a way to free him from captivity. The 2nd Queen is a widow to a king who died fighting King Creon. Venus is the goddess of love, beauty, and desire.

HIPPOLYTA/DIANA/COUNTRYWOMAN (female-identifying, age late 20s-40s). Hippolyta is the Queen of the Amazons, and later Duchess of Athens. Diana is the Roman goddess of the hunt, the moon, and nature. The countrywoman is a rustic and Morris dancer.

1st GRIEVING QUEEN/DOCTOR/SCHOOLTEACHER (female-identifying, age late 20s-40s). The queen is the widow of King Capaneus, who died fighting King Creon. The Doctor is consulted by the Jailer in hopes of curing his daughter's madness. The Schoolteacher leads the Morris dance with the rustics.

ARCITE (male-identifying, age late 20s-30s). One of the two noble kinsmen. A warrior driven by honor and ambition. Cousin to Palamon and nephew to Creon, King of Thebes.

PALAMON (male-identifying, age late 20s-30s). One of the two noble kinsmen. Palamon is idealistic, driven by devotion and love. Cousin to Palamon and nephew to Creon, King of Thebes.

DUKE THESEUS/JAILER (male-identifying, age 30s-40s). Theseus is the Duke of Athens, who has conquered the Amazons. The Jailer is the person in charge of the prison for high-ranking captives.

WOOER/PIRITHOUS/MARS (male-identifying, age late 20s-30s). The Wooer is a suitor to the Jailer's Daughter. Pirithous is Theseus's dear friend and has a great deal of influence on him. The countryman is a rustic and a Morris dancer. Mars is the Roman god of war.
