BREAKDOWN

CALENDAR GIRLS

First Rehearsal: March 3
Performances: March 26 - April 12

SEEKING:

CHRIS - You want Chris at your party. She will talk to people she doesn’t know, find things to say to fill silences and generate laughter. Part of this is because Chris is at home in crowds, holding court, being the center of attention. Without Chris in her life, Annie would be better behaved, her life less fun. The two of them are like naughty schoolgirls. Ideal car – who cares, as long as it’s a cabriolet. Ideal holiday – Algarve. Chris and Annie - Together these two are greater than the sum of their parts. They would be lesser humans had they not met each other. Each is spiritual mustard to the other’s meat.

ANNIE – Annie will join in mischief but is at heart more conformist and less confrontational than Chris. After Chris has put a waiter’s back up in the restaurant, Annie will go in and pour calm. The mischievousness Chris elicits saves Annie from being a saint. She has enough edge to be interesting, and enough salt not to be too sweet. Ideal car – who cares, as long as it’s reliable. Ideal holiday – walking in English countryside. Chris and Annie - Together these two are greater than the sum of their parts. They would be lesser humans had they not met each other. Each is spiritual mustard to the other’s meat.

CORA – Cora’s past is the most eclectic, her horizons broadened by having gone to college. This caused a tectonic shift with her more parochial parents. She came back to them pregnant and tail-between-legs, but Cora has too much native resilience to be downtrodden. She is the joker in the pack but never plays the fool. Her wit is deadpan. It raises laughter in others, but rarely in herself. Her relationship with her daughter is more akin to that between Chris and Annie. Cora doesn’t need to sing like a diva but must be able to sing well enough to start the show with Jerusalem and sing the snatches of other songs required. The piano keyboard can be marked up to enable her to play basic chords should she not be a player. Ideal car – who cares, as long as the sound system is loud. Ideal holiday – New York.

JESSIE – Get on the right side of Jessie as a teacher and she’ll be the teacher you remember for life. Get on the wrong side and you will regret every waking hour. A lover of life, Jessie doesn’t bother with cosmetics – her elixir of life is bravery. Jessie goes on rollercoasters. Her husband has been with her a long time and is rarely surprised by her actions. Jessie bothers about grammar and will correct stallholders regarding their abuse of the apostrophe “s”. Ideal car – strange-looking European thing which is no longer manufactured. Ideal holiday – walking in Switzerland or Angkor Wat.

CELIA – The fact that Celia is in the WI is the greatest justification of its existence. A woman more at home in a department store than a church hall, she may be slightly younger than Chris or the same age, but she always feels like she’s drifted from another world. Which she has. She is particularly enamored of Jessie, and despite the fact that Jessie has little time for most Celias of this world, there is a rebelliousness in Celia to which Jessie responds. It’s what set Celia apart from the vapid materialism of her peer group and made her defect. Ideal car - Porsche, which she has. Ideal holiday - Maldives, where she often goes.

RUTH – Ruth’s journey is from the false self-confidence of the emotionally abused and the genuine self-confidence of the woman happy in her own skin. Ruth is eager to please but not a rag doll, and despite being Marie's right-hand woman she is desperate to be the cartilage in the sound of the WI and keep everyone happy. She has spine herself - if she was too wet, no-one would want her around. But they do, and they feel protective of her because they sense there is something better in Ruth than her life is letting out. They are proved right. Ideal car - at the start, whatever Eddie wants; at the end, whatever she wants. Ideal holiday - at the start wherever Eddie is, at the end wherever he isn’t.

MARIE – Marie has gradually built the current “Marie” around herself, over the years as a defense mechanism. She went to her Oz, Cheshire, and found Oz didn’t want her. She came back scorched. The WI is a trophy to her which justifies her entire existence. There is a lingering part of Marie that would love to be on that calendar. Ideal car - something German and well-valeted. Ideal holiday - a quasi-academic tour of somewhere in Persia advertised in a Sunday Supplement which she could then interminably bang on about.

JOHN – Annie’s husband, John is a human sunflower. Not a saint. Not a hero. Just like the kind of man you’d want in your car when you're crossing America. When he dies it feels like someone somewhere has turned a light off.

ROD – Chris’s husband. You’d have to be a certain kind of guy to stick with Chris and Rod loves it. He can give back what he gets, and has a deadpan humor which has always made Chris laugh. He drinks a lot but never so much as to have a problem. He would work every hour to make his shop a success. And John was his mate, even though the relationship was originally channeled through their wives.

LAWRENCE – Hesitant without being nerdy, Lawrence is a shy young man with enough wit to make a joke and enough spirit to turn up at the WI hall in the first place. When he arranges the shots, he is close to female nudity but only sees the photo.

LADY CRAVENSHIRE – Lady Cravenshire really doesn’t mean to be so patronizing. But the WI girls seem to be from another world. The world of her estate workers. When she makes an entrance, she must make an entrance. Bright white or cream to outplay the others, with a bigger hat than Marie. She is a head-wearer. She must glide in like a galleon.

ELAINE – Elaine really doesn’t mean to be so patronizing, but Jessie seems from another world. The world of her gran. Her clinical whites slice through like a knife. You feel you could cut yourself on that dress.

LIAM – Liam would like to be directing other things than photoshoots for washing powders. He’s not so unprofessional as to let it show, but we can sense a slight weariness at having to deal with these women. There’s a resigned patience to his actions and each smile he makes we feel is professional. For Liam, the photoshoot is a job. And not the job he wanted.

EUREKA DAY

First Rehearsal: May 19
Performances: June 4 - June 20

SEEKING:

DON - CAST. Early 60s. White. Head of school. A calming presence. Has worked hard to become the man he is. From New England, moved to Berkely in the mid-80s chasing the last gasp of hippie-dom. Started in education as a music teacher, and on difficult days fantasizes about going back to it. Has lived with his partner in the same rented in-law unit for 25 years. She makes pottery. They do silent mediation retreats at Esalen three times a year. No kids.

SUZANNE - CAST. Mid 50s. White. Warm and gracious. Moved to Berkely after college when her then-boyfriend and now-husband started graduate school at UC Berkeley. Raising her kids daily and nurturing the school are her life's work and fully entwined. Once her youngest was in school, she started working part-time as a life coach after being encouraged to it by so many friends who she'd helped through difficult times. Has a home worth 4 million dollars (though she’ll tell you it was much much cheaper when they bought it), but thinks of herself as “comfortable” rather than “wealthy”. Mother of Sebastian, Arlo, Izzy, Juniper, Tompkins, and Walden.

CARINA - CAST. Early 40s, Black or biracial. A joiner. Her parents were in the Foreign Service. She grew up overseas and had gone to eight different schools by the time she graduated from high school. This made her skilled at landing in a new environment, figuring out the rules, and putting other people at ease. Her wife is from Berkeley and always wanted to come back, so they moved nine months ago from the East Coast. Isn’t sure how much she loves living here, but is working hard to convince herself she does, because her wife never wants to leave. She’s worked for non-profits her whole professional life, so she has spent A LOT of time in board meetings. And dealing with well-intentioned white people. Mother of Victor.

MEIKO - CAST. Mid 30s, Biracial Japanese/White (describes herself as Hapa). Berkeley native. Wry sense of humor. Went to UC Berkeley and has never lived anywhere else or wanted to. A landscape architect, which she’s good at but a little bored by. A year after the end of a tortured on-again off-again eight-year relationship, became a single mother by choice, of Olivia. When her daughter was young, Meiko’s mother was effectively a co-parent, but less so now. Would like to have another child but feels like she's too old to think about doing it alone, again.

ELI - CAST. Mid 30s, White. Jewish of half-Jewish. Oblivious but well-meaning. From Southern California, went to Stanford then straight into working at a tech start-up. Cashed out three years ago and has been in search of how to occupy his time and exercise his mind. An expert pickler, competitive rock climber, manager of family wealth. Went through an intense Ayn Rand phase in college, which now fills him with shame, but which he has also never fully shaken. When he and his wife first decided to open up their marriage, they spent many hours in therapy making sure they were approaching it in a thoughtful and intentional way. But that was a long time ago. Father of Tobias.

WINTER - CAST. 30s-50s, Person of Color. A parent. This is a walk-on role with no lines.

ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE

First Rehearsal: June 23
Performances: July 9 - August 22

SEEKING:

TULLY - CAST. (Male presenting, 25-40, Tenor, any ethnicity) A smooth-talking playboy, Tully is content with the life he’s built for himself here on the island. He’s a singer/bartender at the Margaritaville resort and though he’d never admit it, he has a real soft spot for the locals. Cool and confident, he meets Rachel and learns that life might be about more than one vacation at a time. Guitar skills are useful. This role requires onstage physical intimacy/kiss.

RACHEL - CAST. (Female presenting, 25-35, Mezzo-Soprano, any ethnicity) Some might call her a workaholic, but Rachel loves her work and is committed to doing whatever it takes to further her research and help the world. She expects high achievement from all the people she surrounds herself with and often finds herself picking up the pieces when she feels they’ve fallen short. Realistic, hard-working, and stubborn, love doesn’t come easily to Rachel until she meets Tully. Guitar skills are useful. This role requires onstage physical intimacy/kiss.

TAMMY - (Female presenting, 30-40, Mezzo-Soprano, any ethnicity) Tammy has a larger-than-life sense of humor and finds joy in the world wherever she goes. Her fiance, Chad, doesn’t always see things her way and she often makes herself smaller to keep their relationship steady. A loyal friend and lover of puns, Tammy really needs this vacation! This role requires onstage physical intimacy/kiss.

BRICK - (Male presenting, 30-40, Tenor, any ethnicity) The Island bartender. Brick is the bartender at the island resort. He also acts as Tully’s dim-witted wingman, helping to disentangle Tully from female travelers hoping for more than a holiday romance. Brick also enjoys flirting with the female tourists, although he’s not as much of a playboy as Tully. Brick has a big heart and is a loyal friend. Tap skills are useful. This role requires onstage physical intimacy/kiss.

MARLEY - (Female presenting, 40-49, Soprano, written as a native islander but open to any ethnicity) The owner of the resort, Marley has put her life and soul into this place. She works hard and tries to keep everyone in line, but she loves her employees and all the island gossip. She’s no-nonsense, knows what she needs from others, and knows exactly how to get it.

JD - (Male presenting, 60-79, Baritone, any ethnicity) A funny, endearing older man. He looks something of a wash-ashore pirate, but he knows his place at the resort so he doesn’t get in trouble with Marley. A good-natured drunk who’s losing his hearing and his vision. He talks a big talk about his life, but no one really knows if it’s true.

JAMAL - (Male presenting, 25-40, Tenor, written as a native islander but open to any ethnicity) Jamal is the busboy and Marley’s right-hand man at the Margaritaville Hotel and Bar. He may have a broken arm, but he doesn’t let it stop him working his way around the bar and his customers.

CHAD - (Male presenting, 30-45, any ethnicity) Chad is Tammy’s fiancé. He is lazy, self-absorbed, and sports-obsessed. Although he claims to love Tammy, he is possessive and always putting her on a diet to “help” her to lose weight.

ENSEMBLE - (All genders, ages, vocal parts, and ethnicity) Chad’s friends, vacationers, wedding guests, resort employees, and insurance salesman zombies. Tap experience is helpful but we can work with anyone. There will be lots to do within this ensemble and many folks will still have featured dialogue and vocal lines. They are the heart and soul of the show that help keep all of the action moving!

PUTTING IT TOGETHER

First Rehearsal: July 14
Performances: July 24 - August 14

SEEKING:

WIFE - Elegant, quick-witted, and always three steps ahead. She’s the hostess with impeccable taste and impeccable timing, navigating the evening (and her marriage) with grace, humor, and the occasional glass of champagne. Beneath the sophistication is a woman questioning whether “having it all” really means having what she wants.

HUSBAND - Smooth, confident, and just a touch cynical. He’s the life of the party, the one with the clever line and the perfect suit, but his charm hides a man quietly questioning whether the life he built still fits. Behind the jokes, there’s a heartbeat of doubt, and yet he still holds out a hint of hope.

YOUNG WOMAN - Romantic, hopeful, and open-hearted. She’s full of dreams and looking for love that feels bigger than life itself. Her optimism lights up the room, but she’s still learning that love isn’t always the fairytale it seems, and that growing up doesn’t mean giving up.

YOUNG MAN - Charming, ambitious, and a little restless. He’s excited by possibility and driven by desire whether for success, adventure, or connection. He’s the spark that keeps things interesting, but underneath it all, he’s just as unsure as everyone else about what he truly wants.

OBSERVER - Witty, observant, and just a little detached from the chaos around him. Whether he’s the butler, bartender, or simply the voice of reason, he has a way of cutting through the noise with humor and heart. He sees the truth behind the small talk and invites us to see it, too.

MOUSETRAP

First Rehearsal: August 25
Performances: September 10 - September 26

SEEKING:

MOLLIE RALSTON - a tall, pretty woman in her late twenties. Having inherited Monkswell Manor from her aunt, she has decided to turn it into a guest house rather than sell it. Some years earlier, she had taught at the school that the Corrigan children attended. Jimmy Corrigan sent her a letter revealing that his foster parents, the Stannings of Longridge Farm, were abusing him, and he pleaded with her to help. Because she fell ill with pneumonia on the very day that the letter arrived, she did not see it until weeks later, by which time Jimmy was dead. A potential murder victim because of her connection with Jimmy's death, she is also a suspect in the killing of the other two women who were involved in the tragedy. She secretly went to London on the day Mrs. Stanning was killed and is the first to find the body of Mrs. Boyle.

GILES RALSTON - Mollie's husband of exactly one year. He is handsome and about Mollie's age. The two married only three weeks after meeting, so his past remains a mystery. He, too, made a clandestine trip to London on the day of Mrs. Stanning's death, and he wears a coat, scarf, and hat like those seen on the killer.

MRS. BOYLE - CAST. A middle-aged, querulous woman. A former magistrate, she unwittingly sent the Corrigan children to Longridge Farm. She is strangled at the end of the first act.

LESLIE MARGARET KATHERINE CASEWELL - CAST. A twenty-four-year-old who looks older. With her masculine appearance, bearing, and voice, and a coat and scarf matching those worn by the murderer, she is highly suspect, especially because she refuses to reveal her motive for returning from Majorca to England after a twelve-year absence. At last, she explains that as one of the two surviving Corrigan children, she has come back to find her brother.

DETECTIVE SERGEANT TROTTER - CAST. A twenty-three-year-old with a London accent. Although he pretends to be a police officer sent to Monkswell Manor to protect the guests, he is actually the insane George Corrigan, who has vowed to avenge his brother's death. He has killed his abusive foster mother and Mrs. Boyle, and he nearly succeeds in getting the third mouse, Mollie Ralston, before his sister and Major Metcalf stop him.

MAJOR METCALF - a middle-aged man with a military bearing. Like most of the characters in the play, he is pretending to be someone other than he is. He is a policeman and takes the place of the real Major Metcalf to pursue the murderer. Because he is the right age to be Jimmy Corrigan's father, who served in the army, he, too, is a suspect.

CHRISTOPHER WREN - an unkempt and nervous young man. Orphaned at an early age and an army deserter, he matches the description of George Corrigan, especially because he is trying to forget an unhappy childhood. Moreover, he confesses to lying about his name and his supposed occupation as an architect. His behavior throughout the play is highly suspect.

MR. PARAVIVINI - a taller version of Agatha Christie's famous detective Hercule Poirot; he is dark, elderly, foreign, and mustached. He is an unexpected guest at Monkswell Manor and claims that his Rolls Royce overturned in a nearby snowbank. Because of his mysterious arrival and his unsettling habit of humming and playing “Three Blind Mice,” which he calls the murderer's “signature tune,” and because of his apparent effort to look older than he is, he, too, is a suspect. In actuality, he is no worse than a smuggler and black-market profiteer.

LOVE LETTERS

First Rehearsal: September 22
Performances: October 1 - October 11

SEEKING:

ANDREW MAKEPEACE LADD III - CAST. Polished, proper, and endlessly composed, Andrew is a man who does everything “right.” From his carefully chosen words to his steady climb through school, service, and politics, he’s built a life defined by order and ambition. But beneath the discipline is a quiet tenderness, a love he can’t quite express out loud. His letters to Melissa reveal the heart of a man who feels deeply, even when he can’t say it face to face.

MELISSA GARDENER - CAST. Free-spirited, bold, and beautifully unpredictable. Melissa lives by impulse and emotion. She’s a woman who laughs too loud, loves too hard, and refuses to fit inside anyone’s expectations. Through her letters, we see her heart in all its honesty and chaos: funny, fierce, and heartbreakingly vulnerable. She’s the spark in Andrew’s careful world, and the one who reminds him what it means to feel.

WINTER STREET

First Rehearsal: November 10
Performances: November 24 - December 6

SEEKING:

MARGARET QUINN: 58, 15 years as the anchor of CBS Evening News. The heart and backbone of the Quinn family, Margaret is graceful, quick-witted, and never one to lose her composure even in the darkest of times. She brings warmth, humor, wisdom, and sophistication to every interaction. Margaret commands both the newsroom and her family with the same calm authority. She is a mother, an ex-wife, a professional, and someone who is still learning what love looks like the second time around. She is led by love, nostalgia, and a sense of duty that runs deeper than she’ll ever admit.

KELLEY QUINN: CAST. 62, Owner of the Winter Street Inn. Ex-husband of Margaret Quinn. Kelley is a man who wears his heart on his sleeve, even when it gets him into trouble. Once a businessman in Boston, he traded city life for an Inn on Nantucket where he can be surrounded by family. Kelley is endlessly devoted, still holding space for Mitzi, the woman who once shared his dreams, and for Bart, his youngest son whose absence weighs on this holiday season. Through it all, Kelley believes that everyone will find their way back home.

AVA QUINN: CAST. late 20s, Daughter of Kelley and Margaret Quinn. Hates “Jingle Bells”. Loathes it. Ava may think that she is the grounded one of her family but she lives in just as much chaos as her brothers. Ava is a music teacher with a heart that always seems caught between two worlds. She has been juggling love for years, torn between what feels right and what’s safe. She wants the simple things in life, real connection, stability, and maybe a Christmas that doesn’t end in heartbreak. Through it all, she is a quiet anchor for the Quinn family. She shows up, holds it together, and believes that love, like family, is worth fighting for.

KEVIN QUINN: CAST. mid 30s, bartender and son of Kelley and Margaret Quinn. Kevin is the middle brother. He is funny, impulsive, and just trying to find his place in a family full of big personalities. After a few wrong turns and more than one broken heart, Kevin is trying for a completely fresh start. He’s got his father’s warmth, his mother’s stubborn streak, and a knack for getting himself into situations that are equal parts chaos and charm. Beneath his humor he is just a guy learning how to grow up, fall in love, and believe that he deserves all of the good things coming his way.

PATRICK QUINN: 38, Financier, oldest son of Kelley and Margaret Quinn. He’s charming, successful, and always the one who was supposed to have it all together. An investor with a picture perfect family, he’s built a life that looks ideal from the outside, but the cracks beneath tell a different story. He carries the weight of being “the responsible one,” even as he starts to realize that perfection is not the same thing as happiness. Deep down, he’s still searching for the peace and forgiveness that only his family, and the Winter Street Inn seem to offer.

BART QUINN: son of Kelley and Mitzi. Bart Quinn is the youngest of the Quinn family. Once the family’s golden child, he bravely joined the Marines determined to make a difference, and to become someone his family could be proud of. But when Bart goes missing overseas, his absence becomes a deep ache for all of the Quinns especially around Christmas. Even from far away, Bart’s presence lingers at Winter Street, a reminder of courage, love, and the belief that someday he’ll make his way back home.

JENNIFER QUINN: CAST. 30s, Patrick Quinn’s wife. Jennifer is the picture of grace under pressure. She makes it all look effortless, even when it isn’t. She and Patrick have built a life that seems steady from the outside, but underneath, she’s juggling more than most could handle. Between motherhood, appearances, and the quiet weight of holding it all together, Jennifer has learned that strength doesn’t always mean perfection. She loves deeply, forgives often, and somehow keeps showing up. After all, love isn’t about not seeing someone's faults. It’s about accepting them.

ISABELLE BEAULIEU: late 20s, French maid that works at the Winter Street Inn. Isabelle is grounded, kind, and quietly brave. She came to America chasing her dreams and a new beginning, building a life for herself far from home with nothing but courage and hope to guide her. On Nantucket, she’s found not just belonging, but love, and in Kevin Quinn, a partner who sees her strength as much as her softness.

MITZI QUINN: CAST. 46, wife of Kelley Quinn and mother of Bart Quinn. Mitzi Quinn is a free spirit through and through. She is unpredictable, passionate, and always chasing what feels right in the moment, even when it leads her straight into chaos. Once the glitter and glue that held the Winter Street Inn together, she is now learning to live with the choices that unraveled it. Her love for Kelley runs deep, even when pride and circumstance get in the way, and her heart never strays far from Bart, her only child. Mitzi is messy, magnetic, and entirely human. She loves fiercely, forgives slowly, and is still trying to find her way back to the family she never stopped calling home.

GEORGE: CAST. 66, a milliner who has played Santa for the last 12 years at Winter Street Inn. George has been around long enough to know every secret, every laugh, and every heart ache that has passed through the Inn. What started as a holiday tradition turned into something far more complicated when he fell for Mitzi Quinn. Their affair shook the foundation of the Quinn family, but behind the scandal was something real, two people who found comfort in each other at a time when both were a little lost. George is steady, thoughtful, and endlessly patient. He is the kind of man who listens more than he speaks and always seems to know what to say when it matters most. He now has a forever place in the Quinn family.

SCOTT SKYLER: mid 30s, principal of the Nantucket Island Middle School. Charming, funny, and just the right amount of unpredictable, Scott is the kind of person who walks into a room and changes the temperature without even trying. As Ava Quinn’s long time almost-something, he’s the man who keeps her heart guessing, caught between what could be and what probably never will. Beneath the easy smile and restless energy, there’s a good heart trying to figure out what love means. Whether he’s in or out of Ava’s life, he's part of her story, a reminder that sometimes timing, not love, is the thing that gets in the way.

DRAKE: early 60s, Pediatric Brain Surgeon, Margaret’s love interest. Drake brings the calm wherever he goes, the kind of calm that makes even Margaret Quinn slow down. With a gentle sense of humor and an open heart, he offers her something she’s never really had, stability without strings. He understands her drive, her history, and the pull Nantucket will always have on her. Drake knows there are parts of Margaret’s heart that belong to Winter Street. He’s the man who stays, who listens, and who reminds her that love can be calm, certain, and strong enough to weather any storm.

NATHANIEL: early 30s, carpenter, Ava’s current boyfriend. Nathaniel is steady, hardworking, and the kind of man who seems to have it all figured out, except maybe love. He loves Ava deeply and dreams of building a life together on Block Island where he has a new exciting opportunity. He’s not controlling, just certain. Nathaniel is kind, dependable, and the kind of person who means what he says, even when he doesn’t quite see that Ava’s dreams might live somewhere else.

POTTER LYONNE: Late 30s. Ava’s option. Potter is adventurous, magnetic, and a little unpredictable. He is the kind of person who lives in the moment and makes it look effortless. He meets Ava in Antigua and fate later throws them together back on Nantucket at Cisco Brewers. He’s the opposite of everything she’s supposed to want, spontaneous where she’s careful and untethered where she’s grounded, but somehow, he makes her feel seen in a way she can’t ignore. Potter isn’t perfect, but he’s honest, present and he genuinely likes Ava. With him, Ava begins to remember what it feels like to follow her heart.

ROGER: 40s and fabulous, Margaret’s stylist. Roger is bold, stylish, and absolutely unapologetic about it. He’s seen it all, the headlines, the heartbreaks, and the hair emergencies. Fiercely loyal and always ready with a sharp one-liner or a new outfit, Roger is more than just a part of Margaret’s professional team, he’s part of her chosen family. Beneath the sparkle and sass is a heart of gold, the kind that shows up when things get real. He keeps Margaret laughing, grounded, and just the right amount of fabulous - proof that sometimes the people who know you best aren’t the ones you’re related to, but the ones who help you shine.

DARCY: late 20s, Margaret Quinn’s personal assistant. Darcy is organized, unflappable, and the quiet force that keeps Margaret’s world from spinning off its axis. Smart, loyal, and endlessly resourceful, Darcy is the kind of person who gets things done without needing credit for it. Beneath her calm exterior is a quick wit and a big heart. She’s equal parts problem solver, confidant, and secret keeper. She keeps Margaret’s professional life running and is beyond proud to do so.

BECKER: Patrick’s favorite guard. Tough on the outside, but surprisingly kind where it counts, Becker doesn’t say much, but his presence reminds Patrick that even in the hardest places, there are still good people looking out for you. With a dry sense of humor, and a quiet sense of fairness, he treats Patrick less like an inmate and more like a man trying to put the pieces of his life back together.
