SEEKING

Equity actors for roles in Theater at Monmouth's 2026 Season. Rotating repertory season: actors will be cast in at least two productions in the rep and must be available for the entirety of the contract dates. The company does not hire on a show-by-show basis. Some roles will be understudied.

OTHER

Rotating repertory season. Actors of all abilities, disabilities, ethnicities, cultures, and gender identities are encouraged to audition. Equity’s contracts prohibit discrimination. Auditions for the fall musical (which is not part of the summer repertory season) will be held at a later date.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

PREPARATION

Please prepare two contrasting monologues, at least one Shakespeare, totaling no more than three minutes. Always bring your Equity Membership card to auditions. Please indicate in your email if you are based in Maine. The theater is dedicated to continuing to grow its connections with artists throughout Maine.

Breakdown: Theater at Monmouth 2026 Summer Season

TAMING OF THE SHREW

1st Rehearsal: June 23, 2026
Opens: July 10, 2026
Closes: August 23, 2026

Seeking:

  • Katherine “Kate”: Female, 20s–30s, a “Shrew”
  • Petruchio: Male, 20s–30s, suitor to Kate, determined to “tame” her
  • Bianca: Female, 20s, Katherine’s younger sister and her opposite
  • Baptista: Male, 40s–60s, father to Katherine and Bianca
  • Tranio / ensemble: Female/Non-Binary, 20s–30s, servant to Lucentio
  • Gremio / ensemble: Male, 40s–60s, older “suitor” to Bianca
  • Vincencio / ensemble: Male, 40s–50s, father to Lucentio
  • Hortensio: Male, 20s–30s, another suitor to Bianca. Disguises himself as a music teacher to win her affections. Actors with musical ability are encouraged to audition.
  • Lucentio: Male, 20s–30s, suitor to Bianca. Disguises himself as a tutor to win her affections.
  • Grumio / ensemble: Male/Female/Non-Binary (flexible with age), Petruchio’s servant

THE MOUNTAINTOP

Seeking:

  • Martin Luther King, Jr.: Male, Black/African descent, age range 30s–early 40s. Nobel Peace Prize–winning Civil Rights Movement leader. Intelligent and vulnerable. An awe-inspiring orator and impassioned preacher who carries a world of responsibility. The play takes place the night after he delivers a speech in Memphis, Tennessee.
  • Camae (Pre-cast): Female, Black/African descent, age range 20s–30s. A young maid at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. Opinionated, vibrant, and flirtatious, with an “otherworldly” presence. There is much more to her than is first revealed; she carries a secret.

LITTLE WOMEN

Seeking:

  • Will Shakespeare: 20s–30s, male-identifying, any ethnicity. An idealistic, curious, driven, slightly naive poet from a small town. Will has a family in Stratford but lives in London. He sympathizes with the characters he writes regardless of their flaws, knows he has something to offer society, and will not be persuaded to betray his values.
  • Kit Marlowe: 20s–30s, male-identifying, any ethnicity. Wildly charismatic, witty, sexual, and a spy for Her Majesty in a big world. Kit has an outsized ego and thirst for life. He is playful, calculating, threatening, and seductive as he tests Will in both craft and politics.
