SEEKING

Theatre Three invites all professional actors to audition for 2017/18 Season General Auditions. At least 34 male roles – early teens to 70s. At least 39 female roles – late teens to 70s. All mainstage shows are open to actors of all ethnicities

PREPARATION

Actors should prepare a 3-minute audition consisting of either 2 contrasting monologues OR 1 monologue and 32 bars. All actors must provide a digital headshot and resume prior to their scheduled audition appointment.

BREAKDOWN

The Minotaur

Characters

3M, 3W

MINOTAUR - Male, late teens to 20s. He should be slim, perhaps gaunt. Hungry. Edgy. Sexual. Fierce. An underlying sadness seeps through his outward cruelty and intellectual remove.

ARIADNE - Female, late teens to 20s. Interested in the meaning of love, and life. Intelligent. Spiky. Spunky.

THESEUS - Male, late teens to 20s. In search of adventure. He’s lived rarefied air, a prep school boy who’s had every advantage in the world.

PRIEST - Male, 40s or older. He wears a habit, and his intellectualism on his deep black sleeve. The smartest guy in the room—unless God’s there, of course.

RABBI - Female, 40s or older. She is incredibly warm and not afraid of anyone. She wears a tallis, and under it, billowing clothes.

LAWYER - Male, 40s or older. They come in all shapes and sizes. This one is not atypical. A man in a precisely tailored suit. He is sarcastic, cynical, and to the point.

Adding Machine: A Musical

MR. ZERO (Tenor/Baritone) - Male, 40s-50s. Antihero who murders his boss after being replaced by an adding machine after 25 years on the job.

MRS. ZERO (Soprano) - Female, 45. Mr. Zero's wife of 25 years. Chronic complainer and gossipy unkempt housewife.

DAISY DOROTHEA DEVORE (Mezzo Soprano) - Female, middle-aged. Mr. Zero's assistant book-keeper who is infatuated with him.

SHRDLU (Tenor) - Male. Jailmate who bears a great amount of guilt and confides in Mr. Zero.

THE BOSS (Same actor plays FIXER & CHARLES; does not sing) - Male, middle-aged. BOSS: Mr. Zero's boss. Informs Mr. Zero about his termination which results in his own death. FIXER: an allegorical figure with wings suggesting an angel. Points out Zero's life has been worthless. CHARLES: An immortal, he functions in the place where souls are prepared for reincarnation and is charged with dispatching Zero back to earth

BENJAMIN - Male, 11-12. Bright, energetic, and very troubled. He has severe autism which often manifests in meltdowns and self-injury.

SUMMER - Female, 30s-40s. Writer, sci-fi nerd, Benjamin's mother. At the end of her rope mentally, physically, and emotionally.

JAKE - Male, 30s-40s. Musician. Summer's husband (then, ex-husband), and Benjamin's father. Trendy brooder. Oblivious to the effects of his actions on others.

SAGE - Female, 30s-40s. Stage actor, waitress, gypsy-mama. She seems never to sit on a piece of furniture in the intended way. Summer's older sister.

HARMONY - Female, 30s-40s. High school theatre teacher, wife, and mother. Summer's younger sister and the youngest of the three Kilpatrick girls, but the eldest by nature.

LIBBY (same actor plays Ashley) - Female, 20s. Jake's new wife and Benjamin's step-mom. Insecure in her new role and overcompensates.

CRISTINA (same actor plays Jen) - Female, 40s. Counselor at St Joseph's, a home and school for special needs children. Kind, compassionate, direct.

JEN (same actor plays Cristina) - 40s. Friend of Sage's. Outspoken to a fault. Renaissance faire enthusiast, lesbian, wife, and mother.

JOEL (same actor plays Jake) - 30s-40s. Jen's kilt-and-combat-boot-wearing brother and fellow rennie. A poet and a womanizer. Has the scruffy-sexy thing going on.

ASHLEY (same actor plays Libby) - 20s. Jen's friend and former nanny. Impossibly attractive and intelligent graduate student in special education. Belly-dancing skills a plus.
