JOSH – (He/Him, early 20s to early 30s) A drunk in early recovery. On medical leave from NYU. Wannabe writer/performer. Desperate to make sense of the world and the noise in his head. He copes through humor, but also evades through humor. He’s charming, maddening, and heart-forward.
BEV – (She/Her, mid-sixties to late seventies) A loving but no-bullshit Jewish woman. Tough as nails, endlessly curious, relentless, and full of surprises. The moral and spiritual center of the play.
SHRIMPY – (He/Him, mid-sixties to late seventies) A Brooklyite Jewish jokester with a huge heart. He manages to be both unacceptably filthy and somehow endearing.
HANK – (He/Him, mid-sixties to late seventies) A conservative Nebraskan Evangelical with traditional views. He’s a loving husband and grandpa, but isn't here for Josh's antics.
IRENE – (She/Her, mid-sixties to late seventies) The sweetest Midwestern grandma in the whole wide world. Josh's favorite as a kiddo. Former singer and church pianist. Effortlessly emanates warmth and love. Sings.
PATRICIA - (She/Her, mid-forties to mid-fifties) Josh's Mom. Hurt and angered by Josh’s recent behavior, but at her core, a mom who just wants to be loving and goofy again. Has comic chops, vulnerability, and finesse. (Doubles as JEANETTE MCFOLLY, LENNI, DARLENE, and RABBI SILVER)
HUGO – (He/Him, Latin-X, late 30s to early 40s) A long-time bookstore manager. Desperately believes in books and the store. Reserved...until he isn't. Has the ability to transform, comic chops, and finesse. (Doubles as TAYLOR, YAAKOV STERN, COUNSELOR RICK, MELVIN, and DUSTIN.)
