SYNOPSIS: After a ruthless cabal seizes power in Washington, Carlton Berg, a bureaucrat for the State Department, runs off with the new regime’s top secret Enemies List. Unfortunately for Carlton, the chase has come to an end in a police station in the Ozark town of Lodus. With a pair of DHS agents on the way, Carlton’s last chance is in the people around him: an unsympathetic police chief, an ambivalent administrative assistant, and fellow prisoner Tanya Shepke, motor-mouthed recidivist and alcohol enthusiast, who appears to have an attention-deficit disorder and thinks Skynyrd should be on the new money. Let the revolution begin.

Seeking:

Carlton:

Caucasian Male, 30-40. He’s an actual genius. But he doesn’t seem to get the free passes that he imagines the other geniuses are getting. There’s something personally needy about his actions, too. Maybe his life hasn’t worked out as well as he had hoped. He’s not generally well-liked. He’s known to be self-centered and backbiting. He does, after all, know what’s right; and though he doesn’t really understand or relate to anyone else in the play, he continues, urgently, to appeal to their better natures. Which means, despite all his misanthropy, he holds a secret store of faith in humanity.

Shonda:

African-American Female, 20-30. Shonda is an optimist, and a people-person. She has the openness of youth. She believes in law and order and civility. Asking her to break the law and defy authority is a big deal. She does not like sarcasm, irony, or rudeness; but she will bear all with patience. She's always engaged. She's never disinterested, even if she pretends to be. She asks questions. She thinks hard. She's always listening, or trying to listen. She returns to things that nag at her. She’s naïve in a lot of ways, not at all dumb, but unsophisticated.

Pittman:

Male, any ethnicity, 40-50. FBI agent - doesn’t see himself as a bad guy, just a tough guy. Which means he’s not afraid to use intimidation if the conversation starts to drift. But when it’s back, he’ll return to his version of patience. He’s slightly less naïve than Lee about how they are likely to be perceived, and he’s ready with a combination of aggression and seduction.

Lee:

Male, any ethnicity, 25-35. FBI agent - never been in the field before. Lee is just as ambitious as Pittman and thinks he deserves to rise faster. These early, heady days of the coup won’t last long, and Lee wants to get everything out of them that he can. He’s very careful never to SOUND like he’s whining. He’s not going to be Pittman’s doormat, just to get along. He deserves better, and he’s perfectly capable of saying so in a mature, professional way, without whining.
