ROMEO AND JULIET

1st rehearsal: 8/21/12. Runs: 9/16-10/2/21
Multicultural production; seeking actors of all nationalities and minorities, with fluency in Shakespeare’s language. Younger roles should be physically agile for some dance and stage combat. Seeking:
Romeo: Teens to mid-20s; passionate, idealistic, nonconformist.
Juliet: Teens to mid-20s; passionate, principled
Friar: 30s-50s: stalwart, decent, visionary
Nurse: 30s-50s; devoted, resolute
Mercutio: Teens to mid-20s; intelligent, unfettered, wild card
Benvolio: Teens to mid-20s; dedicated friend
Capulet: 40-50; leader, loving father, part of the old order
Lady Capulet: 40-50; bound by tradition, caught between old world and new

Beethoven: 50s, composer coming to terms with his genius as his deafness progresses
Diabelli: 50s; music publisher and composer, competitor with and admirer of Beethoven
Schindler: 30s/40s; Beethoven's trusted and devoted friend and confidant
Gertrude: German musicologist whose professional association with Katherine and Clara becomes a friendship
Mike: intern treating Katherine, who also falls for her daughter
Clara: Katherine's daughter, coming to terms with a new intimacy with her mother

Sam: 40s-50s; the office boss; powerful, seductive, love-starved
Johnson: 20s-30s; shy, clumsy, intellectual
Jane: 20s-30s; quiet, dedicated, stutterer
