[SARAH] – (10, child) She’s spunky, joyful, full of moxie and heart. A brunette in a blonde world. She can survive anything with her winning sense of humor, anything but her deepest darkest shame: she’s a bedwetter. Excellent pop/contemporary musical theatre singer.
[DONALD] – (40s) Sarah’s father. He is Boston through and through, with a thick accent. Owns a clothing store – Crazy Donny’s Factory Outlet – and does his own radio ads for it, too. He loves his customers...especially the local, lonely housewives. Masculine, funny, and charming, he’s no genius but gets by with charisma. Recently divorced from Beth Ann. It’s complicated but what’s simple is his love for his girls. Great singer.
[BETH ANN] – (40s) Sarah & Laura’s Mom, recently divorced from Donald. She speaks with perfect diction, and no hint of a Boston accent. Think Diane Chambers from Cheers. She has a fashion sense all her own: Corduroy blazer and Hobo-style purse covered in political pins. But we don’t see that so much these days, as she spends most of her time in bed. Watching television is her happy place. She’s a wildly loving mother yet probably knows more about People Magazine than the people in her own life. Great singer.
[NANA] – (60s-70s) Sarah’s grandmother. Her ladylike demeanor is contrasted by her Boston accent, love of hard jokes and even harder drinks. Should be comfortable with some singing.
[MRS. DEMBO] – (40s) A middle school teacher with a thick New England accent and delusions of grandeur. Great contemporary musical theatre singer.
[DR. GRIMM/DR. RILEY] – (40s-60s)
DR. GRIMM: New Age-y, he’s full of sh*t and deep down he knows it.
RILEY: Relentlessly enthusiastic. Sarah’s psychiatrist. He barely talks to her before carelessly prescribing Xanax. Hey, it works for him! He is too happy. Great contemporary musical theatre singer.
[MISS NEW HAMPSHIRE] – (20s) A Glinda-esque goddess of perfection. Great pop/contemporary musical theatre singer.
[LAURA] – (13, child) Sarah's older sister, better adjusted to the new school than Sarah but still struggling with parents' divorce. Excellent pop/contemporary musical theatre singer.
[AMY] – (10, child) Any ethnicity, a popular girl at school, the leader of the pack. Excellent pop/contemporary musical theatre singer.
[ALLY] – (10, child) Any ethnicity, a mean girl. Excellent pop/contemporary musical theatre singer.
[ABBY] – (10, child) Any ethnicity, not the sharpest tool in the shed. Excellent pop/contemporary musical theatre singer.
