  • Nicely-Nicely Johnson – Just like his name suggests, he is the nicest and cheeriest of the gambling crooks. High-spirited and a bit naïve, but sincere and genuine. Nathan's loyal friend and lackey. Male, 30–45. Db3-Bb4
  • Benny Southstreet – Nathan's right-hand man and a gambler himself. Smart, slick, always moving and shaking, but with what he thinks are Nathan's best interests at heart. Male, 30–45. Db3-G4
  • Sarah Brown – A pretty, bright-eyed woman who serves as Sergeant of the local Mission. She fully believes in her worthy cause and wishes to convert the gambling sinners to saints. Falls unexpectedly in love with Sky along the way. Prudish and uptight, but eventually lets go. Female, 20–30. Bb3-G#5
  • Arvide Abernathy – The bass drum and cymbal player in the Mission band; Sarah's loving grandfather. Wise and sweet. Male, 50–75. D3-E4
  • Harry the Horse – A crook and gambler. Tough guy with dollar signs as his bottom line. Brings Big Jule into Nathan's craps game and backs his cheating, but is also a man of his word in the gambling community. Male, 35–5. F3-G4
  • Lt. Brannigan – A New York police officer who is on to Nathan's illegal craps games and is dead-set on catching him. Tough, no-nonsense. Male, 40–60.
  • Nathan Detroit – A good-hearted gambler and craps game organizer who could never hit the big time. He loves Adelaide, but cannot quit his gambling ways. A broke schemer with unwitting ways. Male, 35–50. D3-F4
  • Miss Adelaide – Nathan's fiancée and a lead performer at the Hot Box nightclub. She loves Nathan more than anything and desperately wants to get married. Pretty, outspoken, stubborn. Female, 35–45. Ab3-Eb5
  • Sky Masterson – A high-stakes gambler whose luck never seems to run out, and a wild card who surprises himself when he falls in love with the unlikeliest of women. Suave, smart, handsome. Male, 35–45. B2-Eb5
  • Big Jule – A big-time craps player from Chicago who uses a gun and his own pair of rigged dice to bully his way into never losing. Tough looking, a bit of an oaf. Male, 30–50. F3-G5

  • Stephen Hopkins – Delegate from Rhode Island. Hopkins' drinking has led to an appearance befitting the 2nd oldest in the Continental Congress. Playful, dirty old man quality. Male, 65–75. Vocal range: C3–Eb4
  • Roger Sherman – Delegate from Connecticut. A simple, balding cobbler with hyperactivity. Male, 55. Vocal range: C3–Bb4
  • Robert Livingston – Delegate from New York. Recently a father; humble and gracious. Male, 30. Vocal range: Bb2–F4

  • Mary – Female, late 20s–30s. Nonconformist, free spirit and rebellious. By the end, a successful, independent modern woman. Strong Roc/Pop belt to E.

  • Bella – A young married woman, possibly with a nervous disposition. Bella loves and trusts her husband and only begins to doubt his sincerity when circumstances force her to do so. She must find a strength and cunning she didn’t know she had. 20s–30s.
  • Jack – Bella's husband. Debonair and charming, seemingly loving and supportive. Male, 35–40.
  • Elizabeth – The housekeeper, 50s–60s, hard of hearing. Lifetime “in service” has taught her to remain dutiful and discreet.
  • Nancy – The young housemaid, smart and perceptive, thinks she sees an opportunity to outsmart everyone. 20s.

  • Lila Dixon – Determined performer and Jim's mismatched fiancée. 30s. High belt, B3–E5. Advanced dancer.
  • Danny – Jim, Ted and Lila's agent. Thirties to fifties.
