SEEKING
Equity actors for roles the Plays in SpeakEasy Stage Company's 2025-26 Season (See breakdown).
Actors of color are encouraged to audition, and all roles are open to inclusive casting. PREPARATION
Please prepare one or two contrasting contemporary monologues, from the season’s plays, or from other sources of your preference. Auditions should be no longer than 5-minutes total. Also, bring your headshot and resume stapled together.
BREAKDOWN
For these auditions, no nudity or any form of sexual contact will be required as part of an actor’s audition. We will not ask prospective participants to perform violence or sexual contact as part of an audition without disclosing this expectation in the audition notice or invitation. SpeakEasy Stage Company seeks to foster an environment of communication, safety, respect, accountability, and the health, safety, and well-being of institutions and its participants.
For pre-cast roles, auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary.

KENNETH. Male. Late 30s. Black. A gentle soul with a vivid imagination. Has a desire for a life bigger than the one he’s living, but a fear of the unknown keeps him sheltered.
BERT. Male. Late 30s to early 40s. Black. Kenneth’s best friend. Solid and steady, has a practical way of looking at the world.
CORRINA. Female. 30s to 40s. Black. A waitress who befriends Kenneth. Smart and not concerned with other people’s opinions, she has a sense of humor and marches to the beat of her own drum. Will double in the roles of WALLY’S WAITER, and BANK CUSTOMERS.
CLAY / SAM / LE POUSSELET BARTENDER. Male. 50s to 60s. Any race.
CLAY: A former college football champion who worries that his best days are behind him.
SAM: Gruff owner of the town bookstore.

JANE. CAST. (Auditions will be considered for replacement roles only.) Female. 25 to 30. White. A young professional living in the Bay Area, knows how to dress to fit in, “self-aware” to a fault, wouldn’t be out of place at SoulCycle.
LOYD. Male. 60s or older. White. Has lived in the East Bay his whole life, rocks a hippie-adjacent sort of look, has a high opinion of himself, wouldn’t be out of place at a Grateful Dead show.

W1. Female. 30s to 40s. Cerebral, charismatic. A wide range of characters from a 19th century aristocrat to a working-class mom in the ‘80s.
W2. Female. 30s to 40s. Comedic. A wide range of characters, from a 19th century young woman in one scene to a very modern, ambitious LA novelist in another scene.
W3. Female. 30s to 50. Poised, funny, capable of being severe.
W4. Female. 25 to 35. Has a youthful quality but also some grit/edge. A high school student in one scene and a fearless resistance fighter in another scene.
M1. Male. 30s to 40s. A wide range of characters, from a 21st century tech bro to a 19th century Romantic poet. Able to bring a playful, modern sensibility to the 19th century scenes.
M2. Male. 30 to 40. A wide range of characters, from a 21st century tech bro to a 19th century Romantic poet. Able to bring a playful, modern sensibility to the 19th century scenes.
M3. Male. Late 30 to late 50s. Paternal, warm, dignified. Has a serious, upright quality but able to find dry humor in unusual places.
M4. Male. 30 to 40. His most important role is Stuart -- A quirky, visionary, endearing young engineer, damaged but open-hearted.
BOY. 10 to 14. A range of pre-adolescent boys, from 1910 to the future. Quick, sharp, sensitive, funny, and above all real.
