Sombraluz asks what we carry home from war—and how those burdens live on in the people we love. At a time when the military’s presence continues to shape daily life, this reading offers a chance to gather, experience new work in progress, and join a conversation rooted in care, accountability, and community.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a brief contemporary monologue (no more than 2 minutes). A short excerpt from the script may also be provided. Please bring a picture and resume, stapled together. Always bring your Equity Membership card to auditions.

THE FOLLOWING ROLES ARE ALL CAST:
SOMBRALUZ (CAST): IN HER 20S, A YOUNGER VERSION OF LUZ, STILL RAW AND HAUNTED BY THE SINS, FEARS.
REBECCA (CAST): 19–25, LUZ’S DAUGHTER—HALF PUERTO RICAN, HALF BLACK. A SUCCESSFUL SOCIAL MEDIA BEAUTY PERSONALITY, INDEPENDENT BUT TETHERED TO A PAST SHE CAN'T ESCAPE.
RICKY (CAST): LATE 20S, HALF PUERTO RICAN, HALF DOMINICAN. LUZ'S SON, BROKEN BY HER NEGLECT. STRUGGLING WITH ADDICTION, HE'S LOST IN A FIGHT FOR REDEMPTION.
