BREAKDOWN

SHUCKED (Tour)

SYNOPSIS: What do you get when you pair a semi-neurotic, New York comedy writer with two music superstars from Nashville? A hilarious and audacious farm-to-fable musical about the one thing Americans everywhere can’t get enough of: corn. SHUCKED is the new musical comedy that proves sometimes tearing down a few walls, rather than growing them, is the only way to preserve our way of life. With an outrageously funny book by Tony Award winner Robert Horn, an irresistible score by Grammy Award winning songwriting team of Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, and direction by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien, SHUCKED is about to turn North America on its ear and offer a kernel of hope for our divided nation.

SEEKING:

STORYTELLER 1 (Female identifying. 25-45. Black.) Warm and winning. Has a contemporary vibe, a raconteur with a razor-sharp wit and delivery. They function in the story as one of two closely connected narrators who, through comedy and song, guide the audience’s journey using their own unique brand of humor and by telling us about their own journey. They comment, participate, warn, philosophize, and guide the action from scene to scene, often giving a personal POV that has political and philosophical undertones. This inviting character has a beguiling confidence and a warm yet very cynical twinkle. They are hoping their story and the slightly sarcastic and heartfelt way they reveal it, can help heal the divide that is damaging the spirit of our nation. Through their guidance, perhaps we can start to see those that are different than us . . . differently. Sings well.

STORYTELLER 2 (Male identifying. 25-45. Any ethnicity.) Has a contemporary hipster vibe, a ‘back on their heels’ easiness, but also a razor sharp wit and delivery. They function in the story as one of two closely connected narrators who, through comedy and song, guide the audience’s journey using their own unique brand of humor. Part Yoda, Part Kerouac, Part Nietzsche [if he had a tattoo on his

butt that said ‘make good choices’] they comment, participate, warn, philosophize, and guide the action from scene to scene, often giving a personal POV that has political and philosophical undertones. This inviting character has a beguiling confidence and a warm yet cynical twinkle. Believing there is no time like the future, they are hoping their story and the slightly sarcastic and heartfelt way they reveal it, can help heal the divide that is damaging the spirit of our nation. Sings well.

MAIZY (Female identifying. 20s. Any ethnicity) With a confident, proud, farm girl strength and a small town, childlike naivete and innocence, she is the fiery heart of the story. So optimistic she calls it yes vember, she’s fearless, sees the good in everyone, and often takes things at face value. Yet, at a place of change in her life, she’s starting to question everything, including herself. Unpretentious yet unpredictable, she has a hunger to know more without losing what it is that makes her humble and unique. Much of the comedy exists in MAIZY’S small-world innocence, positivity, honesty and openness. Country belt/mix.

LULU (Female identifying, or non-binary, or gender expansive. 20s-Late 30s. Any ethnicity.) Maizy’s cousin and best friend, she’s an opinionated, self-aware woman who speaks her mind and yours. She’s right, and you’re just saying things. She runs the most successful business in town, and is an immovable force with a self-proclaimed confidence. She has a sensitive side . . . until you push her too far, has an uncanny intuition, and can drink any guy under the table, after she’s done building it. With a romantic edge and a love of family and faith that keeps her grounded, she’s the sister you wish you had, the woman you hope you get, and the friend you can trust with your life. An exceptional vocalist.

BEAU (Male identifying. 20s-Early 30s. Any ethnicity.) He’s a proud and stubborn farm boy who loves his momma, his music, and his moonshine. Basic, broody, big hearted, Beau is the no-nonsense shit kicking boy next door with a quirky joy and a love of his community. High tenor.

GORDY (Male identifying. Late 20s-Late 30s. Any ethnicity.) ROLE IS ON OFFER. As handsome as he is fast talking, he’s a seductive, second-rate Florida con man. A poor man’s politician who can make some people swoon and others suspicious.

PEANUT (Male identifying. 20s-Early 30s. Any ethnicity.) The colorful town prophet that everyone comes to for advice, as they hang on his every word . . . of which there are many. Everyone’s best friend, his insights and wisdoms are a trailer park Ted talk. Though you sometimes need a GPS to get to the end of his stories, the journey is always worth taking. Sings.
