Sophie:
African American Female, 18+ to play late teens. Possesses an inner strength that belies the physical and emotional abuse she's suffered. Alert, cautious, determined. Strong singer, must move well.
Salima:
African American Female, early to mid 20s. Emotionally defeated, scarred in every sense, traumatized by torture and rape, flashes of defiance. Deeply loves and misses her husband and child. Sees no way out of situation.
Fortune:
African American Male, mid to late 20s. Salima's husband. A farmer that has been co-opted by the military, now a killer. Sensitive, lost, still loves his wife but can't allow himself to forgive.
Kisembe:
African American Male, early to mid 30s. Rebel Army Leader. Power without common sense. Arrogant, self-involved, ruthless, but can be charming.
Osembenga:
African American Male, mid 30s. Government military leader. Pompous, carries self with confidence that the government supports his actions. Takes what he wants with impunity. Is more western in appearance/style than others.
Josephine:
African American Female, early to mid 20s. Experienced, has “been around.” Enjoys a slightly higher status in Mama Nadi's house. Will work any side of an issue to her advantage. Graphically sexual. Strong dancer.
